CHAPTER 7 Alexa hurriedly made her way to the kitchen, having had nothing to eat all day. She prepared herself a sandwich and coffee, eagerly carrying the tray to her room. Her hunger was almost unbearable. Upon arriving in her room, Alexa devoured her sandwich ravenously. When she finished, she gently placed the tray on her bedside table and strolled to the bathroom to wash her hands. Staring at her reflection in the mirror, she thought about how she had become a shadow of her former self. "I've got work to do," she reminded herself. Alexa walked out of the bathroom to her little library, determined to put in more effort into her studies. She brought out her lecture notes and cell phone to listen to the recording she made in school. Alexa made sure she didn't leave anything out from what the lecturers taught that day. When she was done writing, Alexa decided to study what she had written. One hour passed, and Alexa had sweat on her forehead. She felt pangs of headaches and understood absolutely nothing. Even the concepts she managed to grasp were difficult to memorize. Alexa felt waves of frustration wash through her. "This is it," she muttered to herself. "Here we go again. It's like this all the time. I put in the effort, but it's always in vain. An hour has gone by already, but I still haven't been able to gain anything." Alexa wanted to be a medical doctor, but it seemed impossible. Realizing she was losing her cool, Alexa took a deep breath. "It's okay, Alexa. One step at a time. You've got this. You've got to take things slowly," she muttered words of encouragement to herself. Alexa managed to calm herself down a bit. Deciding to review what she had tried to comprehend for the last hour, another hour quickly passed, but she wasn't any more enlightened than when she started. Sighing sadly, Alexa shut her notes and exited her little library. Back in her room, she collapsed onto her bed, tired and exhausted from the day's events. Drifting off to sleep almost immediately, Alexa dozed off peacefully. Then, suddenly, she found herself walking down a bustling street with no particular destination in mind. It felt like something was calling out to her, but she didn't know what. She couldn't resist it, so she kept walking tirelessly. Before she knew it, she found herself surrounded by really high mountains. Surprised by her surroundings, Alexa looked around in awe. The mountains were incredibly tall and seemed unique. One of the mountains stood out from the others, with a silvery shimmer and a unique aura. It seemed solid and transparent at the same time. Amazed, Alexa looked at the mountain from the bottom, slowly examining it with her eyes all the way to the top. Looking up, she saw someone standing at the summit. Alexa could easily tell it was a man. He looked majestic, wearing a white regalia, surrounded by silvery lights that seemed to be a part of him. His silver hair cascaded down his shoulders to his waist. He was surrounded by an aura that seemed ancient. Alexa shivered in fright. The strange man stood on the mountain with his back towards her, seemingly unaware of her presence. "Where am I?" Alexa asked herself, trembling slightly. "He can't be human. Is he an alien?" As if sensing someone's presence, the being on the mountain slowly turned towards Alexa. Alexa's breath hitched, and she trembled more in fright and anticipation. When the being was fully turned towards her, Alexa gasped, stunned beyond words. "Beautiful," Alexa muttered subconsciously. The being raised his eyebrows. "How did you get here?" he asked, his voice melodious but powerful. His voice echoed like the sound of many waters, making Alexa tremble more. Coming back to her senses, Alexa took to her heels, ignoring the strange feeling that ran through her like electrical currents when she saw the face of the being on the mountain top. As she ran, the mountains around her began to fade away, suddenly, she was back in her room, She was gasping for breath, her heart racing. Jolted awake by a knock at the door. Thump, thump, thump. The knock continued. Alexa jumped up from bed, seriously frightened. She breathed in and out heavily, looking around her room wearily, and then heaved a sigh of relief. "It's a dream, it's just a dream," she reassured herself. Hearing the knock again, Alexa remembered that it was the knock at the door that woke her up from the scary dream. Alexa felt grateful to whoever was at the door. She slowly got out of bed, trying to shake off the lingering fear from her dream. As she approached the door, the knocking stopped. Alexa hesitated for a moment, wondering if she should open the door. Taking a deep breath, she slowly turned the handle and opened the door. To her surprise, it was one of the mansion's maids, Emma, standing in the hallway with a warm smile. "Good evening, Miss Alexa," Emma said. "I brought you some hot tea and cookies. I thought you might need something to calm your nerves after...everything." Alexa's eyes widened in surprise. It was a small act of kindness, but it meant a lot to her. "Thank you, Emma," Alexa said, smiling weakly. "That's very thoughtful of you." Emma nodded and handed Alexa the tray with the tea and cookies. "If you need anything, Miss Alexa, don't hesitate to call me." As Emma turned to leave, Alexa felt a pang of gratitude. It was a small reminder that not everyone in the mansion was against her. With renewed hope, Alexa closed the door and took a sip of the hot tea. It was just what she needed to calm her nerves. She sat down on her bed, feeling a sense of determination wash over her. She would face whatever challenges came her way, and she would come out stronger. The dream she had was still lingering in her mind, but Alexa was determined to focus on the present. She would deal with her studies, her family, and her own personal growth. As she sipped her tea, Alexa felt a sense of peace settle over her. She knew that tomorrow would bring new challenges, but she was ready to face them head-on.
