She clutched her hairdressing bag to her stomach and sighed. “I don’t need a bodyguard.” “You have such a hard job accepting help and affection, don’t you?” Jerry raised a speculative eyebrow and turned onto a rural road. He glanced in the rear-view mirror and frowned. The lights of the city suburb twinkled behind them. Kit shrugged. “No.” But her protest sounded futile even to her. “Maybe a little.” She flattened her lips into a reluctant smile and patted Jerry’s thigh. “You’re a good friend. I’ll admit I enjoyed knowing someone waited outside for me.
