CHAPTER NINE The afternoon after Peter and his colleagues left for their week-long retreat at Thompson’s hunting cabin, Angie sat in her small apartment thinking. She’d given Peter a lift in his Toyota Avalon to the Capitol, from where the staff was going to drive to the retreat in two SUVs, then returned to her place to spend the afternoon watching some videos she’d rented at Blockbuster. After dinner, Angie wanted to read a horror novel.
