COMPOUND WOES
Another day had dawned, fetching new expectancies and aspirations. The light of the new dawn seeped into the room as Sonia rubbed her bleary eyes and woke up stark naked in a gigantic bed.
“Where am I? How did I get here? Ouch, my head's spinning right now,” she caressed her head and got dressed when he walked in with a cup of coffee.
“Hey, finally you're awake. You had too much to drink last night. So, I took you in,”
"You pathetic liar from the pit of hell. What did you stand to gain in this? You knew I was drunk, yet you took advantage of me. How mean can you get? All men are the same.
You take advantage of women at the slightest opportunity. You're a beast and a rogue. I should get you arrested for what you just did"
Sonia hurled curses at him and escaped before he could say a word. There she got in a cab heading home to make amends with her father.
Her boyfriend wouldn't want her around anymore, she just had s*x with a total stranger. Presently, home seems the perfect destination.
“I just hope Father accepts me back after all the nasty things I said to him. I went totally out of line. I guess I overreacted.
Just when I thought I was gonna find solace with Kane, he messed everything up. Here I am, feeling guilty after a one-night stand. Gosh! I hate my life already. I ruined my life more," she mumbled, biting her nails like a 7-year-old.
Finally, she reached home. Anxiety washed her face and hijacked her confidence. She felt completely lost and empty.
Uncertain of what to do with life anymore, Sonia strolled in and saw her father snoring on the couch. That was the greatest scare of her life. Sonia didn't wish to see him, not at this crucial time.
“Dad, Can I come in? I know you're outraged at me right now, but the truth is…?” Sonia pushed to explain but was cut in by her dad, who was so enthusiastic to see her again.
"Sonia, thank goodness you're back. I was so worried about you. For a second, I thought something bad must have happened to you. It's good to have you home.
You wanna eat something? Let me get you something to eat.
Joe clutched his daughter passionately and didn't berate her for walking out on him the previous night. His attitude astounded her.
She was hoping he would whip her ass for transgressing and ignoring his calls; rather, he received her with open arms, just like the biblical prodigal son.
"Don't worry about me. I'll be fine. I'm not hungry. I've got something important to discuss with you. It's a confession. The truth is, I…"
"Halt! You don't owe me any apology. I screwed up. I should be the one pleading for forgiveness.
Not one word from you. All you require is a hot bath.
Why not go inside and rest while I prepare your bath with some sweet delicacy? I know you must be starving right now.”
Joe deprived Sonia of the chance to explain herself. She had wanted to reveal everything to him, including the 'one-night stand' with a man she didn't even know.
It's been 8 days since the ugly incident occurred and Sonia still hasn't moved on. She would shut herself inside her room and cry all day.
Joe tried to uncover the hidden truth about her plight, but she would rather not spill. He once deprived her of the opportunity to express how she felt, but now, she'd rather die than disclose to anyone.
Her conscience is rebelling against her, and if she doesn't fight it, she might end up losing her sanity. Sometimes, she felt the vacuum of a mother figure.
"Sonia, you've locked yourself Inside your room all day. What's wrong? You are refusing to speak to me. You stopped eating your food. This isn't you. What's happening? You can trust me. I'm your father. Let's trash this talk. I don't like seeing you this way.”
Joe knocked on the door of her room. Sonia wouldn't step out, as her situation was getting worse every day. She stopped going to work and automatically terminated the life-changing contract with the grant record label.
"I'm fine, Dad. I just wish to be left alone. I don't need you or the food. I can take care of myself. I just need some moments to be alone with my thoughts. I hope I can get that. Thank you,”
Sonia whispered from the bathroom after throwing up countless times. She's been feeling clumsy lately and can't decipher what's wrong. She eats a lot and shuts her eyes at the slightest opportunity.
She falls weak every time and can't even concentrate on house chores anymore.
"I think I need to go see a doctor. I don't wanna fall sick. Not in this difficult moment. I need proper treatment.”
Sonia agreed as she surveyed everywhere to be certain her father wasn't watching before sneaking out to the hospital. With nervousness, she requested to see the Doctor and was directed to his office.
"Hi, I'm Sonia. Can you please run a quick check on me? I've been feeling awkward lately.
I've got this constant weakness.
I barely fall sick, but this is quite strange. Haven't felt this way before,” Sonia explained.
"Your temperature is a bit high. Please stay back while I take your blood samples to the laboratory for some tests. It'll be ready in an hour. Once it's out, I'll know how to administer some medications to you,” the doctor assured after extracting her blood samples with injection.
"How long do I have to wait for him to show up? I'm getting fed up already! It's past noon and the Doctor still hasn't shown up yet.”
She ranted. Anxiety has liquefied her heart as she feared the worst to happen. She got tired of waiting and dozed off. Unannounced, the doctor stepped in and caught her snoring so loud.
"Hey, wake up. The test results are out. I'm sorry it took this long to come out. Here you go.”
He woke Sonia and gave her a white envelope. From his disposition, she could discern catastrophe looming over her. Calmly, she opened the envelope and bent her head down after going over the test
results.
