Darkness held firm to the edges of my vision before everything went black. I wasn't sure if I had blinked or only imagined it, but I found myself standing on the whitest sand I had ever seen. There was nothing but sand and clear blue sky as far as I could see. It was peaceful. Almost like I had been dropped in the middle of a serene painting.
A sudden and irregular beating of a drum broke the serenity of the place. I scowled, hoping the sound would stop and leave me to my peace. Instead, it drew closer, causing my body to shudder with each pound.
