Chapter 2

1025 Words
The Hunt family has the best medical team in the world, and Luka is the only heir. They will never let anything happen to him. That heart would be well protected even without her around. And she, therefore, no longer needed to stay by Luka's side. Soon enough, the sounds from the private room stopped. Anna stood there waiting for a long time, but Luka never called her in. A waiter stepped out and looked at her in surprise. "Why are you still here? They left through the back door a long time ago." Anna froze, held back the bitterness in her chest, and nodded. "I see." She took a taxi back to the villa, only to step on a floor full of broken glass. Lucy let go, smashing the last cup that belonged to Anna. "Luka said everything in this house should suit my taste. I just smashed all your cheap furniture. You don't mind, do you?" "I don't mind. Do whatever you want." Anna spoke calmly, but her mind drifted to the past. Her late lover had always spoiled her. When they decorated their first small apartment, a worker had removed the swing she loved without permission. Her gentle lover had almost fought the man. He had always protected everything she cared about. With him, no one could ever treat her like this. Unfortunately, Luka had never become the man who loved her. Lucy froze for a second, then sneered. "You don't even care? Anna, you've been a doormat for so long you've lost all your dignity." Anna couldn't be bothered to look at her and walked around her toward the bedroom. "Wait!" Lucy grabbed her, arrogance flashing in her eyes. "Kneel down and clean up this glass. Or I'll have Luka punish you!" Anna ignored her. Furious, Lucy raised her hand to hit her, but before she could, Anna caught her wrist mid-air and slapped her hard across the face. She had already made up her mind to leave Luka. She would no longer tolerate Lucy. "You!" Lucy was about to snap when she suddenly looked behind Anna and immediately dropped to her knees, crying. "I'm sorry, Miss Brown. I know you're Luka's fiancée. I'm just his secret lover. If you don't like me, you can hit me as much as you want..." Luka's eyes flickered with surprise, a faint smirk tugging at his lips. But in the next second, he stepped in front of Lucy. "Apologize to her right now, or I'll never forgive you!" Lucy pretended to be wronged and whispered softly, "I couldn't possibly ask her to apologize. After all, she's your fiancée... I'm just your ex..." Luka kept Lucy behind him, his voice firm and commanding. "I, Luka Hunt, do not have such a rude and unreasonable fiancée. Apologize to her now, or I'll cancel our wedding!" Anna looked at him quietly for a few seconds, only feeling sarcasm. Her late fiancé had protected her like his life, never letting her suffer even a little wrong. Yet this same heart, now inside Luka, had become so blind it couldn't see through such cheap acting! Anna smiled bitterly. The past three years of devotion had truly been wasted on the wrong person. "Fine. Cancel it. We're breaking up." Both Luka and Lucy froze at her words. Luka was quiet for a moment, then sarcasm flashed in his eyes. "Playing hard to get? You just had to run an errand. You could put up with it before—why not now?" He lifted Lucy into his arms and coldly added before walking out, "If you're breaking up, then from today on, you lose every privilege of being Mrs. Hunt." Lucy wanted the wedding home Anna had picked out? He let her move in right away. Lucy wanted new luxury goods? He immediately gave her all of Anna's limited-edition custom pieces. Lucy even wanted their relationship public? He contacted the media and flooded the internet with their sweet daily updates. But Anna remained calm, not even a single question. She packed her bags, left the villa, and returned to the small apartment where she had once lived with her late lover. Right then, her phone suddenly rang. Luka's lazy voice came through. "Anna, have you apologized yet? My heart feels uncomfortable and tight. Come bring me my medicine, and I'll forgive you and take down all those news stories." At the mention of his heart, Anna instinctively squeezed her phone. During the transplant, the doctor had warned that Luka was in poor health and might experience rejection. No matter how much she disliked Luka, the heart of her late lover must never be harmed! "Where are you? I'll be right there!" She grabbed the medicine and rushed to the club, out of breath. Before she even entered the private room, she heard loud, mocking laughter. "Luka, you're the best! Pretend to be sick a little and she comes running. Total doormat!" Luka looked arrogant, one arm around Lucy, the other swirling a wine glass. "It's no big deal. Believe me, with one word, I could make her kneel and feed me medicine." The group exclaimed, "Damn, she really has no dignity at all?" "Of course not. Anna loves me like crazy. She cares more about this heart than I do." He smirked playfully. "Shows I picked a good wife. If my heart ever rejects, she'd dig out her own heart and give it to me." Anna closed her eyes. What had she been expecting? This was exactly who Luka was. She had only humiliated herself. She pushed the door open. Luka's expression changed slightly, and he instinctively let go of Lucy. "You heard all that?" Anna's voice was hoarse. "I brought your medicine. I'll leave now if there's nothing else." Luka was infuriated by her coldness and grabbed her wrist. "Wait." She turned around and met his complicated gaze. "Watch me take this medicine. If anything happens to me, you're responsible." Anna didn't move. But in the next second, Lucy, holding the medicine box, suddenly cried out. "Luka! This isn't your usual medicine! These are hormones that can trigger heart failure!"
