The Flames of Fate

Chapter 1: The Flames of Fate The night was alive with whispers. Selene clutched her cloak tighter, her pulse pounding as she hurried through the narrow alleys of Evershade, the capital of Eldoria. The sky above shimmered with the silver glow of the twin moons, casting eerie patterns on the cobblestone streets. She had always known this day would come. The moment she had lost control of her power, igniting a burst of blue flames in the market square, the hunters had been sent after her. The High Council did not tolerate Starfire wielders. They feared them. And now, Selene was a fugitive. A sharp sound echoed behind her—bootsteps, closing in fast. Panic surged through her veins as she turned a corner, only to collide with a figure cloaked in shadows. Strong arms caught her before she fell, and as she looked up, her breath hitched. The man’s eyes gleamed silver in the moonlight, unreadable yet piercing. “Running from the Council, are we?” he murmured. Selene’s fingers twitched, ready to summon her power if needed. “I don’t want trouble,” she whispered. The man tilted his head. “Oh, but trouble has already found you.” And with that, her fate was sealed. --- As Selene steadied herself, she noticed the emblem stitched onto his cloak—a silver serpent coiling around a crescent moon. Her mind raced. That symbol belonged to the Shadowborn, the exiled warriors who once opposed the High Council. If he was one of them, she had just stumbled into more danger than she realized. “Who are you?” she demanded, stepping back. The man chuckled softly. “A friend. Or an enemy. That depends entirely on you.” Selene didn’t have time for riddles. The hunters were closing in, and she could already hear their shouts in the distance. Her power crackled beneath her skin, urging her to act. “You need to come with me,” the man said, his voice suddenly serious. “Unless you prefer being captured.” She hesitated. Trusting a stranger could be just as deadly as staying, but the alternative was unthinkable. With a final glance over her shoulder, she made her choice. “Lead the way,” she said, her voice firm. And so, her journey truly began.
