Chapter 6: The Days that FollowedI stood there, a little numb, a little aching. Jaiden walked over to me and briefly embraced me.
“It's all right, Lace, you're going to see him again,” he said with a flash of a grin.
I flushed, and he chuckled.
Feeling better, we returned to the kitchen. Jaiden started cleaning up the dishes; I resolved to actually do something for once, so I helped. Now that I was in Jaiden's presence, I wasn't experiencing any pain or hollowness. He was my barrier to that.
So it was all good.
Still, I had a lot of questions for Jaiden. And the one on the top of the list concerned the very thing that was now on his finger…
“Um, Jaiden, I don't want to be random or anything, but can I ask you something?”
He glanced at me with raised eyebrows. “Sure.”
