Chapter 9 Officer Stern wasn’t wearing his uniform when he walked into the shop at one thirty, ten minutes after Jack and Max had arrived. Instead, he has on jeans and a sweatshirt. Max watched through the open doorway to Deacon’s office as the officer, acting like a customer, strolled around, looking at the guns on display, before approaching Deacon.
