Chan's POV
The rooftop wasn't just a rooftop. It was designed like a small park-plants, flowers, even a swing is here. It was really a nice place to breathe in and relax.
"How did you find out about this?"
"I roamed around the campus then I saw discovered their rooftop. It's beautiful isn't it?" He smiled at me. I think this will be one of my favorite places at this University.
"Yes, it's nice."
"So, how was your first class?" He asked. How can he be so curious about me?
"It's fine; except for one thing. But I can handle that." Reina is part of my memories already and I won't let her do the same thing again with me. Remembering the past is sometimes a nightmare to me but as time passes by, I learned how to let go and move on. I won't let Reina ruin my life again.
"I am here for you." Lucas uttered which made me stunned for a few seconds. What did he just say? "I am here for you Chan. Whenever you need someone to lean on, just call me. Whenever you are in danger, I will protect you." Why is he saying all of these out of nowhere?
"What are you talking about? I am fine!" I tapped his shoulder to assure him that I can handle myself but he was looking at me worriedly. I can see it in his eyes.
The bell rang for the second class which made Lucas pause from answering me. I guess he's just really worried but I am actually fine.
"Let's go. We must hurry!"
Our second and third class ended so soon and we are dismissed. Actually, it was still lunch time so I decided to take lunch first before roaming around the city to look for a part-time job.
"Chandrea!" I looked behind me and it turns out to be Reina. She was all smiles when she approached me.
"Where are you going?" She asked. Is it my fate to encounter weird things every time?
"I--I'm going to the cafeteria." I replied. Geez.
"Let's go together?" I was hesitant, I admit it. Reina didn't consider me as her friend back then but why did she become kind to me all of a sudden?
"A--alright--"
"Chan!" Someone called me again and it turns out to be Lucas who was approaching the two of us. He was catching his breath as he stopped in front of us.
"And who is this guy, Chandrea?" Reina asked when Lucas stood straight in front of us.
"Chan, are you not going to introduce me to your friend?"
"O--Lucas, this is Reina. My highschool classmate. Reina, this is Lucas, my neighbor."
"Oh, nice to meet you Reina." Lucas smiled from ear-to-ear as he laid out his hand for her.
"Nice to meet you Lucas." Reina replied as he took Lucas' hand. Hello? I am still here. Lucas is a good-looking guy and Reina is really a pretty girl. They look good together and I think they can be mistaken as a couple. Wait, why am I saying these things? Aish.
"Chan, where are you going?" Lucas asked.
"I was suppose to go to the cafeteria and eat lunch." I answered him.
"Is that so? I actually bought lunch." Wow, he is really fast. A coincidence again huh?
"I guess I should leave you two." Reina uttered.
"I am sorry Reina."
"It's okay, Chan. Let's just have lunch together at the cafeteria next time." She smiled at me and walked away without saying anything to Lucas. Is she mad?
"You know what Chan, I don't like her aura." Lucas said while we are looking at Reina who is walking away from us.
"Huh?"
"She seems like someone who fools everyone around her. She has a bad attitude." I guess that's in the past. Why don't we give her a chance?
"I don't think so."
"Eh?" He looked at me like he was shocked. Does he know something? Impossible.
"I know her. Maybe she jsut want to have real friends who will show her love and care."
"Whatever. Let's go!" He grabbed my wrist again and dragged me somewhere.
"Hey! Where are we going?!"
"You want to look for a part-time job remember? So, let's go! We can't waste time!" Eh? Did I tell him that I want to look for a part-time job?
I paused as we reached the street.
"Wait. Did I tell you that I want to look for a part-time job?"
"Aigoo Chan. You told me a while ago! Don't you remember?" I swear. I can't remember that I told him or maybe I just really forgot about it? Whatever.
"Whatever. So, where are we going now?"
"To the convenience store to eat first. I want some ramen!" Wow, this guy is really unbelievable. He told me not to waste time but he thinks about ramen and eating first rather than starting to look for a part-time job. "Let's eat this packed lunch when we reach there." He started to walk to the nearest convenience store around so I followed him-this guy is really weird.
After eating, we decided to roam around the street to look for a part-time job. I don't really imagined that looking for a good part-time job is this hard. We already spent few hours of walking and we were always rejected by the restaurants, the convenience stores or the coffee shops. Phew.
"Looking for a job is really hard." We sat down a bench near the last store that we went in. It was already the 25th time that we got rejected.
"Hey Chan, don't give up just like that. We can find a job that suits us. It is still early!"
"Can we just rest for awhile?" This guy has a lot of energy still while I am here, drained. He didn't answer me instead he approached the old man who was passing by, selling sausages. He came back with two sausages and gave one to me as he sat beside me.
"Here."
"Thank you." I accepted the sausages and took a bite on it. Aigoo, this is delicious.
"Tell me, who is Reina?" Huh? "You look like you are afraid and hesitant whenever she talks to you. Did she do something to you?" He asked. Wow, he is really good at looking into people. Because of his question, I suddenly remembered the thing I can't forget about her.
It was the day of our performance in school. We were part of the cultural club of the school and we are doing ballet. I was the prima ballerina that time and our performance for that day is an important day because the board of directors will offer a scholarship at Russia for the students who will catch their attention at the performance so being the prima ballerina was really important. While I was at the comfort room while preparing myself, the lights went off and the door was locked. I was locked at the comfort room. I was calling for help but she just laughed at me.
"I collapsed at the comfort room and I didn't got the chance to perform as the prima ballerina. I also lost my scholarship. Being able to go to Russia and dancing ballet has always been my dream aside from being a news anchor and journalist. That was also my dad's dream. After he died, I found a booklet and there was his savings for my studies. I also found a letter that he was suppose to give me that after my performance as my pocket money to Russia."
Tears fell down my face while I was telling half of my life's story.
"He was confident that I was going to make it because I was practicing hard. But he died before my performance and I blame myself for that."
"Why are you blaming yourself?" Because of this ability! I wish I can do something for my father but I did nothing.
"I wish I can do something to prevent his death but I did nothing."
"Chan, life and death are two connected things. That is your father's fate." Fate? What a silly fate. "The deity has a plan that's why He made that happen." A plan? A plan to make me suffer? After what happened, I never danced again because I am afraid. I was really afraid until now. "The deity only wants what's good for us."
I smiled a bit at him as I wiped my tears. "If the deity you are talking about really wants what is good for us, why did He took my father?"
I really don't want this kind of conversation so I stood up to walk away from him. Our conversation is getting nowhere.
"Chan! Wait for me!"
I don't want to remember everything that happened. It really hurts. It still hurts.
Lucas' POV
We were accepted at a coffee shop after we have spent the whole day of looking for a part-time job. The salary that was offered to us was a bit small but it's better than nothing. After hearing Chan's story from her, I became really determined to help her.
I will look for someone who will love her truly.
I will make her dance again.
I will make her smile genuinely again.
