Chapter Two

Chan's POV

"Chan, how's everything?" Mom asked as soon as I entered our house. Everything was a mess actually! Because of my foolishness to help someone, I ended up late on my application for college and they didn't accept me already. Ugh. This sucks.

"I didn't get to take the entrance exam, mom."

"What? But why?"

"Aish! Don't ask about it mom. I don't want to remember it."

"Did something happen?"

"It was my fault, in the first place. I am so foolish. But by the way mom, I saw a truck and some men unloading furniture and stuffs there at the house in front of us. Do we have a new neighbor?"

"Oh, that? Yes, Chan." Wow, I hope that neighbor wouldn't be as noisy as the former one. Imagine? They would still play music on their stereo at past 11 pm in the evening!

"I hope it would be a nicer one."

"I heard that one of the member of the family there is a police." A police? Aish. I don't want to hear that word for now. Because of those policemen, I wasn't able to take my entrance exam.

"Chan, are you okay? Why are you clenching your fist? And you're like you are ready to kill someone."

I took a deep breath. Chan, you need to calm yourself down. Aish! It's really getting into my nerves!

"I'm okay mom--" I was still about to say something when the doorbell rang. Who would that be?

"You open it, Chan." Eh?! Why does it have to be me?!

"But mom--"

"Open it now! Come on!" Mom pushed me to our door. Okay! Okay! If that would be someone who is annoying and disgusting, I would be ready to punch him or her right away!

"YOU?!" WOW! Seriously?!

"Hehe--I have a gift for you and your mom? We are only new here so I hope we will get along well as neighbors." He smiled from ear to ear which became really annoying. I knew that was a fake smile. Ugh! Neighbor?! Why of all people, this guy would be my neighbor?! Wait, what is his name again? Lucas?

"Do you really have to be my neighbor?" I asked him.

"Wait, are you the one at the police station awhile ago?" Someone behind him spoke and he was a lot more handsome than Lucas. He was the policeman who defended the grandma about her statement awhile ago!

"Ye--yes. Are you?"

"I'm Eros. I am Lucas' older brother. Nice to meet you." He offered his hand and I was about to reach it when Lucas coughed it front of us. Disgusting!

"Will you accept this or not?" He asked showing his plate with rice cakes. Wow, how thoughtful of him but no thanks. But come to think of it Chan, it might be from Eros so you have to accept it. Argh! What choice do I have?!

"Thank you." I said as I smiled a bit to Eros and rolled my eyes at Lucas as soon as I accepted the rice cakes.

"I hope we can be good neighbors to each other. Nice to meet you again, Chan."

"Wait, how do you know my name?"

"I asked some of our other neighbors here." Oh---Eros is kind, charming and really attractive actually while Lucas is like a total opposite of his brother. Tch.

"Okay, we have to go. See you around!" Eros said.

"O--okay." I closed the door as soon as they went away. Tch. I wish Eros was the only one living there but it ended up that he was the brother of Lucas.

"So, did you meet them? The brothers?" Mom, you knew?!

"Mom, do you know it beforehand?"

"No actually. I just heard it from our other neighbors here at the compound." Tch. "How was it?"

"Nothing special. One of them is annoying and one of them is pretty charming."

"Ohh.. Okay." Mom nodded teasingly so I just rolled my eyes. Aish. Mom has always been like this. Maybe because I don't have any interest about boys so she was trying hard to pair me up with someone.

"I want to rest mom."

"You don't want to eat these rice cakes?"

"No thanks!" I replied as I climbed up the stairs going to my room. This is what I actually need--a rest. I threw myself in bed and closed my eyes. I need to return to school tomorrow for an entrance exam again.

Taking a walk after the entrance exam is refreshing. I decided to take a walk here nearby the river so my mind would be somehow refreshed. Again, I dreamed of something terrifying. I have to relax. Besides, today is a nice day. The weather is nice.

"This is nice!" I spread my arms as I closed my eyes and feel the warm breeze touching my face. I hope life can be peaceful like this everyday.

"And now you are meditating huh?"

"What are you doing here?" Lucas, the annoying guy was actually standing beside me and flashing his teasing smile again.

"I am out for a walk also." Wow, what a coincidence.

"Well, you walk at the other side and I'll walk here at the other side."

"Wait, Chan. Did I do something wrong that you are annoyed with me like that?" I was also wondering. Well, I already forgot what happened at the police station but something about him makes me feel uncomfortable and annoyed whenever I see him or it is just really me? I mean, when you encountered a person at an annoying event, the feeling can remain in you--you would be annoyed at that person for a long time. That happens to me all the time so that's why.

"I just don't want to see you." I rolled my eyes at him and looked at the calm river.

"You know what, you need something to calm you down." Huh? What is he talking about? "Let's go." HE suddenly grabbed my wrist and dragged me somewhere I don't know. Where are we going?!

"Wait, hey! Where are we going?! Hey!"

Not less than a minute, we reached an ice cream shop. Ice cream?

"I guess this is what you need. Ice cream to cool yourself down." He giggled as he faced the counter and ordered something. Ice cream is not my style actually. He really looks childish while ordering. Tch.

"Here." He approached me holding a cookies and cream flavor of ice cream with three scoops. Wait, this is my favorite but how did he know? Ugh. Don't jump into conclusions Chan. Just pretend that you were not surprised and it was a coincidence. Maybe it was just a coincidence.

"You don't have to do this."

"I just don't want to see grumpy people. You must smile and enjoy your life because you'll never know what will happen next." Wow, he became serious all of a sudden.

"Tch. I know." I just replied.

"Minnie!" Someone shouted which distracted the people around the ice cream shop. Lucas suddenly ran to save the little girl from the coming car. Geez! He's really insane!

"Lucas!"

"Are you okay?" He asked the girl as they were both lying on the ground. Blood!

"Lucas, you are bleeding!" Sht! He was hurt!

"Minnie!" The mother of the girl hugged her daughter.

"I'm okay Chan. I'm okay--"

"Lucas!"

He fainted. He was bleeding on his forehead and arm and he was still not waking up. This is a familiar scene. It was my dream last night. It was really my dream last night. I tend to ignore it and don't think of it much but it really happened. I dreamed about me and Lucas standing on an ice cream shop and he saved a girl from an accident. It was a clear dream.

But why of all people I dream about him? What is Lucas' connection to me? Why am I dreaming about him all of a sudden? Because he became my neighbor?

"This is freaking me out."

"Chan?"

"Y--you're awake!"

He sat straight at the bed holding his head. "Ugh. My head hurts. What happened?" He asked me.

"You fool. You saved a girl from an accident awhile ago and you hurt yourself; you suddenly fainted so you were brought here at the hospital."

"Is the girl okay?"

"Yes, she was already with her mom." I responded. He nodded and looked at his arm. I didn't know he has this side and we only met each other lately but something like this happened already. What does this really mean?

"Bro!" I stood up when Eros came. "What happened?"

"I'll go outside first to give you time. Excuse me." I bowed at them and went outside the emergency room.

I felt my knees tremble.
