My mother's eyes widened as if she'd seen a ghost. No one has ever seen a fae before, not in a thousand years, quite literally. I didn't know what to expect, I never saw the man's face, he could have been skinny and pale like a vampire for all I knew.
I wasn't even sure if he was the same fae as before, it was however likely since he was still looking for his pendant. We all rushed out the room, following the knight as he led us through the palace, everything was dark. I felt a shiver run down my spine as the darkness seemed to have grown eyes. We were led to the dungeons, in the east wing. Grabbing a torch each, we walked down the twisted staircase into the dark room. It was damp, and sparsely lit by a few torches on either side of each wall.
We followed the knight further into the dark, looking into each cell I saw very few people. It wasn't common for an elf to be sent to the dungeons. Most of the prisoners consisted of other species, there were dwarfs, orcs, halflings, goblins and nymphs. My heart reached out to them, it wasn't every day you see another species, let alone one locked up. They looked dead on the inside.
We came to a stop in front of a dark cell. "It's empty." My sister looked at the man confused. "Oh he's in there your highness, but it's a creature of the dark. He hides his face like a vampire scared of the light." He spat at the ground, cursing the fae creature. A hand stuck out from the shadows, grabbing the knight's ankle, the man jumped from shrieked, kicking and squirming under the fae's grip.
The fae let go of him letting out a low chuckle. Somehow it was soothing, more earthly, he didn't seem like some alien creature anymore, but rather something that was a lot like us. "I've been waiting for you little princess." There was a shuffle in the dark, we squinted trying to see what was happening behind the bars that separated us.
Two hands came into the light, gripping on a metal bar each. We waited to see what his next move was. Slowly a face was made visible in the dim light. I was surprised by what I saw, he had a beautifully sculpted jawline, and prominent cheekbones. The fae had black hair that was shoulder length and looked like silk, I fought the urge to run my hand through those raven locks. His eyes were a dark emerald green like two orbs staring at me. I tried to catch a glimpse of his ears, I've always wanted to see a fae's rounded ears.
Evelyn grabbed me by the arm and pulled my behind her with a stern look on her face, "who are you, and why are you here?" I was shocked to see his eyes were still fixed on me, he'd completely ignored my sister. He smirked showing off his dimples. I wasn't sure what to think, this was my enemy, so why was he eye flirting with me, and why were his lips so inviting?
My sister snapped her fingers trying to grab his attention, "I'm talking to you." He looked back at her, his face went completely expressionless. "Prince Aanan at your service your majesties." He took a deep bow, as if to mock our name. "What's a fae prince doing in the elven forests?" My mother questioned him.
He gave her a devilish grin, it was clear he wasn't going to answer any more questions and he liked the way it frustrated us. "You know, I've heard a lot of rumors about you elves, and they were right about a lot of things, but I never thought I'd believe you were such a bewitching species."
His gaze slowly made its way back towards mine. I couldn't control the blush that made its way to my cheeks and it was frustrating how he gave me butterflies without even trying. I turned to my sister, "he's not going to answer our questions sister, leave that to the prison guards, they'll get an answer out of him." He scowled, "torture, that sounds like fun, will you be there to supervise princess? "
If I was entirely honest with myself, there was something sexy about the thought of him being tortured. What was I thinking, this sick minded creature couldn't think about anything without giving me a dirty look. I had enough of it, I walked up to him pulling him by his shirt right against the iron bars, "no, my sister will, and she will enjoy watching you suffer."
