Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the Earth. Doesn"t that sound ridiculous? We live in a high-powered, dynamic, energetic promotional country called the United States of America. Don"t we all know that it is the high-energy, powerful promoter and big wheeler-dealer that gets ahead? Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the Earth. If Jesus had said, "Blessed are the meek, for the IRS is the kingdom of heaven." That we could understand. But when he said, "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the Earth," it sounds like a gross statement of ridicule. Until you study the Greek origin of the word "bless," you cannot really understand what the word means. I will not give you a lesson in Greek, but I did translate that saying in several other ways to clarify the meaning.
