He ran from the past...until losing her wasn’t an option. —- Alex’s POV I sat in the driver’s seat, unmoving. The engine ticked softly beneath me, but I felt frozen. I had rehearsed a dozen versions of what to say. None of them sounded right. Not after I left her like that. Half an hour passed before I finally stepped out of the car. My palms were damp. My suit felt too tight. And when I walked past the maids, they all turned—startled, peering at my disheveled state. “Where is my wife?” I asked. The nearest maid jolted. “Y-Your room, sir.” I gave her a look that made her pale further and moved on without another word. It wasn’t just the files I left behind at the office. That was the excuse I’d fed myself. But the truth was heavier. I needed to see her. Needed to know she was okay
