Chapter 3

Lyra's POV As he bent beside me, he moved his face across my ear before saying those words that made me look belittled. “Be careful what you wish for, little Luna. Because once you step into my world, there’s no turning back.” I turned swiftly to him; his giggle sent shivers down my spine, making me ask myself several questions. Before I could ask the question that I had in mind, he already stood up, rubbed my back like I was an obedient pet, and went out of the room. What a scumbag!! What did he do that for? I breathed forcefully, twisting my hands into fists. He had the chutzpah to act as if he possessed all the power. But maybe he did. The thought made my stomach twist. I had accepted his deal. I had decided to associate myself with Shadowfang's fallen Alpha. And suddenly I was in his world. I forced myself up with the pains still in my body. I was suffering from the sting that I got from the fight with the rogues last night on my shoulder. I stepped down from the wooden bed; as I approached the door, it was different from what I had seen all my life, so I decided to touch and test the doorknob, probably glancing outside my environs. Getting there It wasn’t locked, but when I pushed it open, two massive men stood on the other side. Warriors. Their faces were blank and their postures tight. A silent message. I wasn’t a prisoner. But I wasn’t free, either. A slow, mocking voice came from behind me. “Going somewhere, little Luna?” I turned to find Darius leaning lazily against the far wall from the soldiers, he was shirtless, with his arms crossed over his broad chest. My eyes met his arm, that was the scar there, the scars marking his skin. I guess there was evidence of battles he had survived or of wars he had won but one thing is certain he was badly injured. His silver eyes gleamed, unreadable, as he watched me. I lifted my chin. “I agreed to your deal, not captivity.” Darius smirked. “And yet, here you are.” I stepped forward. “Let me go.” His gaze darkened as he kept staring at me, I saw the amusement on his face was fading. “You still don’t get it, do you?” He pushed himself off the wall, as he moved slowly towards where I was. “Kade won’t just let you go, Lyra. He will hunt you. He will find you. And when he does, he will erase you, that was a promise” A shiver rushed down my spine; as he said those words, I knew I was going to get revenge, but I maintained a frightened look. “You don’t know that.” Darius raised his eyebrows. “Don’t I?” He took a folded note out of his pocket and threw it on the table next to me. It was clear that the wax seal was the official insignia of the Thorncrest Pack. After hesitating, with my eyes piercing through, I didn't trust him but I picked it up. My fingers shook as I unfolded the letter and scanned through the text; I was eager to know what was written there. Official Order: Lyra Blackwood's banishment will be carried out immediately. Should she return, execution is permitted. Two signatures stood out in the firelight at the bottom of the letter. Alpha Kade Thorn. Luna Sienna Thorn. I wanted the ground to swallow up. My heartbeat was pounding in my ears heavily. Kade hadn’t just rejected me. He had made sure I could never return. I swallowed, my throat dry. “He… he really wants me gone.” Darius c****d his head slightly. “You sound surprised.” I really should not have been. Kade had thrown me away as if I were nothing. Sienna had stepped up for me without hesitation. They were no longer concerned about me. It was their mistake. And errors have to be corrected. My chest began to boil slowly with wrath. Darius must have seen it, for he moved closer, his voice lower and almost pleading. "Do you still think you do not need me?" I raised my chin. "What is it that you want?" His smirk had returned, keen and knowing. "That is something we have previously addressed, tiny Luna." He drew closer, his fragrance of dark spice and smoke enveloping me. “You help me reclaim my pack. "I will help you destroy Kade." The words hung suspended between us. A dangerous offer. A reckless alliance. But what choice did I have other than this? I don't have any other choice, I can't risk leaving and getting to face those rogues! I clenched my fists tightly as I was burning in anger and determination to carry out my revenge. “Then let’s begin.” I want to see Kade and my sister crawl before me and beg me. Darius' glittering eyes glinted with something menacing. “Oh, we already have.” The fire crackled and quietly stretched between us like a live wire. Then he turned and walked for the door. I exhaled, trying to suppress the chaos in my chest, but just as I took a step forward. A thunderous crash resonated across the room. The ground shook. The door to my chamber burst open, one of Darius’s warriors staggering inside, his face ashen. “Alpha—” His words cut off in a sharp choke. A blood-stained dagger pierced his chest from behind. My breath caught. Darius surged forward. But before he could reach me, the warrior's body was thrown aside like a rag doll, and a dark figure entered the room. His eyes radiated a strange, ruthless radiance. I knew that face. The sharp, angular jaw. The sneering lips. The eyes that had previously stared at me with desire were now filled with hatred. Kade. My blood ran cold. His voice was deathly quiet. “Did you really think you could hide from me, Lyra?” I staggered back, but he was already moving, too fast, too strong. Darius hissed, his body blurring as he approached him. The room descended into mayhem. And I recognized, with cold certainty. I had just entered a war.
