The brief blaze of morning sunlight disappears behind a heavy cloud cover, and I sigh. It was nice while it lasted. Lightning flashes in the sky to the east, and I count to sixteen before the roll of thunder washes over me. This new storm seems to be moving closer, but I stay in my spot next to the flagpole.
Kids stream past me, jostling each other as they head to school before the first warning bell rings. I strain my head above them, searching for my target.
I almost miss her. She has a green jacket on with the hood up, probably to shield her from the imminent rain. However, that does nothing to hide how beautiful she is. Once again, I’m stumped why no one else can see this.
