We grimace. Rett would love to go out with Jarom to find the others, but it’s just not feasible. Curfew is already in effect, and any non-Elite would instantly be picked up. Luckily, Jarom has an Elite ID that lets him travel with impunity. It’s saved a few lives in the past, and hopefully will do the same now. At the end of the corridor, Jamie takes out a key and unlocks a door. Artificial light spills into the hallway, and we shield our eyes as we enter. As our eyes accustom themselves to the bright level of illumination, we see our newest home. There isn’t much to look at. We’re standing on one edge of a large, wide open space.
