CHAPTER FIVESchool
A bell sounds, loud and piercing. The crowds of kids around Michelle and me all begin moving towards the large, double doors of Davies High School, like a flock of swallows seeking the same tree for shelter.
I walk besides Michelle, reveling in my ability to stay tethered by gravity again. I brush my hand against my pant leg, feeling the article of clothing underneath that’s keeping me earthbound.
I smile as I imagine what others would say if they could see what I’m wearing.
