Chapter 12

889 Words
Jamie’s POV I opened my eyes, the bright light making me blink a few times as my eyes adjusted. I stared at the ceiling for a second, taking in my surroundings. White walls. White ceiling. Rhythmic beeping. It sounded like a hospital. I closed my eyes again for a second and realized that I felt a tingling buzzing in my hand. I opened my eyes again, looking at my hand, seeing a masculine hand holding it. My heart started beating a little faster. Is it? I followed the hand up to his face. Aiden. I smiled at him, recalling the date that we had. I remember him taking me up in a hot air balloon and, while I was scared at first, his presence calmed me. I remembered our first kiss, simple yet exuding passion. I remembered us watching the sun set and the balloon returning to the ground. I remembered the glowing eyes in the tree line after Aiden had stopped walking. He had stepped in front of me to protect me. My eyes opened wide at the memory of him turning into a giant wolf. What the hell happened last night? I realized I was still holding his hand and threw it away from me, trying to push him and that memory as far away from me as possible. I heard the beeping on the heart monitor accelerating as my mind continued to recover thoughts from our date. Fear embraced me as the memory kept swirling in my head. A million questions came into my head as I remembered how he protected us after he had transformed into a wolf. The questions that had formed in my head kept spinning in my mind making me feel as if I had a tornado in my mind. I felt dizzy at all of the thoughts I had at once. I pulled my knees to my chest protectively. A nurse came in, perhaps hearing the commotion on the monitor. She checked me over, but her presence alone was calming me, making me feel more secure to ask the one question that had superseded the rest. I tried to steady my shaky voice as I nearly whispered the question I most wanted answered. “What are you?” Aiden looked startled as he stared back at me. He was speechless, reminding me of when we first met, although now the circumstances were much different. After a moment, Aiden had managed to formulate an unsatisfying response. “Uhh, what do you remember? That will probably help me know were I need to start. Was he serious right now? He should be the one answering questions, not me. I glared at him. I thought about the events. How do I even put that into words? “I remember enough. I remember you turning into a wolf and fighting the other wolves that had tried to attack us.” “Umm, ok. So. Uhh.” Damn, he was bad at this. He was constantly fumbling Ask him about Hunter. What? Oh, I remembered that my inner voice had said something about the wolf’s name being Hunter. “What does the name Hunter mean to you?” I said, trying to find a better question to get him to start talking. “Hunter is my wolf,” he said confidently. I looked at him skeptically for a moment, but I realized with his body language that he was not bullshitting me. “Look, your sister is going to be here soon, maybe we should wait for her,” he continued. My sister? How was my sister coming here? Where was I even? “Where am I, exactly? Where is here?” I asked. I couldn’t keep this question in any longer. “We’re at the Silver Moon Pack clinic.” I looked at the nurse, who hadn’t let my side. She looked uncomfortable throughout this experience. She started to back out towards the room. “Wait, don’t go!” I realized my voice sounded harsher than I meant it, but I didn’t want to be alone with Aiden with so many unanswered questions. I caught my self after a moment and added, “… Please?” My eyes pleading her to stay with me. The nurse nodded her head before I resumed questioning Aiden. “What do you mean Silver Moon Pack? What’s that.” I raised my eyebrows anticipating his answer. “Uhh, so Silver Moon is a werewolf pack.” My eyes widened in surprise. Though I had my suspicions, it felt so different to have him say it so simply. I had only ever heard about them in folklore and myths. What the hell did I wake up to. He continued, “And you are too.” What?! My heart started racing again, as my eyes darted around the room. He had been so honest with me this entire time. But he couldn’t possible be telling the truth, could he? I searched Aiden’s face for any traces of deception, but his eyes were not the normal slate gray that they usually are. They were silver and swirly, his pupils no longer there. As swiftly as it started, it stopped as well. “Your sister will be here in just a few minutes. It might be easier if we all talk together.”
