Aiden’s POV
My mouth hung open as I stared at this beautiful woman. As she introduced herself, her name was the only thing I heard. Jamie. Hunter approved. After a moment, I noticed both Jamie and Cameron were looking at me with anticipation. What did she ask? Oh. A drink.
“Coke, please.” I replied, hopefully smoothly, and gave her my best smile. She gave me a quick smile and turned to leave.
“What’s going on with you, man? I mean, she’s pretty, but-” I cut him off with a low growl.
“She is beautiful and she is my mate,” I replied quietly. Though there weren’t too many customers right now, I didn’t want anyone to overhear.
“Wait, you mean it, man? It’d been so long, I thought Moon Goddess forgot to set you up with someone!” I lightly smacked his arm in jest as Jamie returned.
“Here’s a water for you, and a Coke for you,” she said with a smile placing the glasses down in front of us respectively. “Do you guys know what you want, or should I give you another minute?”
I knew exactly what I wanted. I wanted to bring my Luna home and mate and mark her. I wanted to be together with her for the rest of my life. Then it hits me. Jamie. She is human. A human Luna? I always promised myself that I would never take a chosen mate and was waiting for Moon Goddess’s gift, but a human? When I realized that I hadn’t said anything yet, I replied to her “I just need a few more minutes, please.” I glanced at the menu.
“Take your time, I’ll be back to check on you in a few minutes.” Her angelic voice melted my heart.
Cameron looked at me in shock. I’d always been able to talk to ladies easily, but this girl made me forget any line. She was too good for a line. “So that’s our Luna, eh?” Cameron said while raising his eyebrows. “I wonder if she has a sister!” he joked. I wanted to find out everything about my future Luna. Even if she was a human, I decided that I had to bring my Luna home. But first, I had to decide what to eat for dinner so I didn’t look like an indecisive imbecile who couldn’t even order dinner. Got it. Chicken Parm sandwich with potato wedges.
When Jamie circled back to us, I confidently placed my order and handed her the menu. When she grabbed the menu, our hands brushed. Mated werewolves always talk about the mate sparks. But they did NOT do the sparks justice. The simple act of brushing her hand had me nearly come undone. She retracted her hand with the menus quickly and turned to put in our orders. I couldn’t have hurt her, right? I hope she felt a pull towards me too.
Jamie’s POV
As I looked at my customer and his slate colored eyes, I had to remember that I had a job to do. It seemed that I was affecting him too as he seemed to forget how to speak. His friend was holding back chuckles. Once I had the drinks and came back for the order, I almost felt bad for the guy who could barely seem to speak in my presence.
Damn. I’ve never had that effect on a guy. Ever. Well, maybe Devin’s right. It’s the extra button. As I walked away from my new favorite customer, I realized I didn’t want to leave. But I saw that the dad and his daughter were finished with their food. When I stopped by, I had asked if they wanted dessert. When they declined, I dropped their check off at their table and circled back. I saw the two customers whispering to each other and the guy with the grey eyes hit his friend playfully. When I took the menus, the guy with the grey eyes gave me a shock. I pulled back my hand instinctively.
Unsure of what was happening, I wanted to get the orders and get back to work. It couldn’t have been a shock. That kind of hurts. This shock felt good in my body. It was like he electrified every cell in my hand by a simple touch.
In fact, this simple gesture of a touch was enough to make me feel a buzzing in my brain. I was completely drawn to this man and I didn’t even know his name. However, with the amount of customers that we had that were just passing by, I’d probably never see him again. Unfortunately, this thought made my chest tighten. I pushed the thought to the back of my mind so I could continue working.
After I placed their order with Donovan, the chef, I circled back to check on Mister Gruff and Tough. He didn’t want to order any more food. At least, that’s what his grunt said. As I walked away, I rolled my eyes. I continued cleaning the menus and wrapping silverware till Donovan rang the bell for me to return to my new favorite customers. I dropped off their food and made sure everything looked good with their order and turned. As I got to Mister Gruff and Tough, he grabbed my arm again and told me that he was about to head out to the road, so it was now or never.
Excuse me? I didn’t agree to any of this! “Get off of me, sir!”
But before I could yank my arm away, my new grey eyed companion had Mister Gruff and Tough by his throat, his feet barely touching the ground. He gasped for air. When I looked at him, his eyes were no longer slate grey, but black.
