Amelia
“Mrs Sinclair ?” It’s one of the staff members. “Mr. Sinclair would like to speak with you in the library.”
I blink, startled. “Oh, uh… sure. Tell him I’ll be right there.”
The staff member nods and walks off, and I find myself hesitating again. Ethan wants to speak with me. I’ve been in his presence countless times since this started, but something about the request catches me off guard. What could he want now?
I push down the unease and head down the hall toward the library. The house is still and quiet, but there’s something else in the air now, an odd energy that I can’t quite place. I knock softly on the library door before stepping in, and there he is, standing by the window, looking out at the view beyond.
“Amelia,” he says without turning around. “Thanks for coming.”
