The Bet

"Hello Avy, I've heard that the Crown Prince recently fond of you."

"It's not like that your Highness. I was grateful to be useful for his Highness and for the Empire." I just answered.

"Is that so?"

"Yes, Your Highness." After I answered, he walked over and said goodbye to Lady Miary.

"You are too small of a height for a knight that you look like a petit woman," she whispered when she passed at me. Just what was that for? I don't know if I will be annoyed or not but I need to calm down.

Yeah, I know my height is a little bit ... but she doesn't have to be so straightforward and I am still growing, you evil witch. I want to tell her that but I refrain to provoke her. It's better not to be in her interest, I know she obsessed with his highness but I am a man in terms of appearance, so she doesn't have to worry about me. Will, she even watch over me, I really don't want to see that prince.

"I don't like her." I looked at her when she said those words while seriously looking at the back of the so-called-crown-princess Ryah.

"So, I do." I seconded and she looked at me smiling.

"That's the first one, you agreed with me," she said while her face is like an innocent puppy with her eyes is like a star.

"I just agreed to you because she seemed to be hiding something so I agreed." I just said because I can't say that she is really an imposter. I will just ruin the flow of the story it may be the cause why I can't go back.

"Well, no matter what the reason is, this is the first time you agreed to me so I am happy," she said as we walked out of the palace. The carriage was already there waiting for us and I assisted her to the carriage while I ride to the horse.

While we were returning to Collins state I thought about what would happen next in the story and because I did not remember much of what was in the story, I would just read again what I wrote in the little notebook I had written before.

I've been recently thinking that the story is a little bit off to the story but the events and the main plots or the special scenes are still there but something is off. Like this now, why the villainess showed up earlier than I expected. She should be known by next year and also the crown prince's coming back to the palace it should be after the festival or next year. Did this happen because of me??? I don't think it is since I am just a minor character in the novel. 

"-vy! Avy!" I turned around when my fellow knight touched me and asked why, but he just pointed to Lady Miary's carriage.

"You called, Lady Miary?"

"Yes, I've been calling. It seems your spacing out? Is there anything problem?"

"Ah, nothing."

"Really? But you do look like you are really thinking hard."

"I am just thinking about something" 

"Oh, is it the lady again? And I remember, tomorrow is your day-off." 

"What?! It's not."

"Really? .. I don't think so."

"Ugh. Lady Miary how many times do you want me to tell you that it was a coincidence that I bumped with her in those days off's" Here we are again. Several times, I said that our meeting was not planned and I did not even know the name of that woman.

"Fine, fine." 

"Then, why did you call me??" 

"Oh, Right before I forgot. Prepare for tomorrow since I'll be attending to that bitc- the Crown Princess and I'll be taking you with me." 

"What? Why do I have to come with you? Even if the palace is safe?" 

"You don't know what's inside the palace Avy. I am sure that you will know when we will go there tomorrow. And don't worry I have permission to bring you there."

"If you say that then I will be going." 'I also did not have a choice if you preceded me in making the decision' I whispered to my annoyance

"Did you say something? hmm," she asked me while smiling but a different smile but mixed with annoyance.

"N-no. I said I am willing to go with you" 

"Good."

After we talked, I went back to my front. After all, I can do nothing but follow her the next day.

We arrive at the state and she immediately got out of her carriage so I guess there is no turning back for tomorrow. I really don't want to go to the palace as much as possible because thinking back on what happened to Lady Layla, I can't forget that it was the knights under the Emperor although it's not the elite unit. I only found out about him recently when I heard some rumors when I first came to the palace and was looking for the person who killed them but that accident gradually disappeared.

And since I am going to the palace I have to arrange what I have to bring. After I've prepared everything I need, I look for the notebook where I write down the plot of the story but then I couldn't find it. I even looked at my wardrobe but I can't really find it. So I sat down on my bed wondering where did I put the little notebook.

I was surprised when there was a sudden knock on the door so I let him/her in and a maid came in and said that Duke was calling me. So, I get up and ready to go to the Duke's Office. I knocked at the door and state my name before I entered the room.

"You called, Your Grace?"

"Yes, Avy take care of my daughter in the palace and make sure not to get in trouble."

"With pleasure, your Grace" where did that come from.

"I'm counting on you, Avy."

"I will do my best sir," I answered while a bow. 

"You may go." That's why I walked out when

"Take care of yourself, too," he said that's why I stopped.

"Thank you." before I finally came out wondering why Duke said those words because now he is acting strange.

And I really feel weird because I feel warmed by his words, It's like a parent's kindness but then I think we have been together so I felt this way just like what I've felt from Lady Layla and Liz. Maybe we become closer since she and I was like siblings but she's a bully and sometimes childish when she wants something she goes through the stubbornness of her head.

I go back to my room and went to my bed as I lay down and looking at the ceiling while thinking about tomorrow. Just what will happen since I think the story is changing little by little. I didn't know when will be the things to happen. It would be a pain in the a*s because I have to be wary of my surroundings especially inside the palace. I know what she told me about in the palace but it only says that even in that palace can be dangerous. But the exact events in the book are not mentioned much.

I checked the time and it was 7 pm so I went out and went down for dinner. I found her coming down the stairs so I followed and she suddenly stopped and faced me with her maid. I greeted her and she just smiled before finally coming down and we went straight to the dining area. We waited at the Duke before we eat and the daily routine after we eat is we go to our own room to rest but then Lady Miary followed me until I reach my room. So I asked her why.

"Your hair color." So I looked in the mirror then my hair color is becoming slightly fading if you will thoroughly be checked, that's why she stared at me on the stairs for a long time. I forgot to dye it yesterday when I plan to do it, if you are wondering why I dye it right away even though it is not obvious because I have to be careful but when she found out that I dye my hair she insisted to dyed it especially when she came into my room and I was about to dye my hair. And this time, she will be the one who will dye my hair since she notices my hair dye is fading so I have no choice but to let her do my dye.

She even asks why did I dye my hair and I answer her that it's my hobby but then she complimented me that I look good in blonde when she tried to dye my hair from dark brown to blonde. Do you know why did Liz make me dye my hair is I don't know aside from the day when I was reborn 15 years ago and she said that she might suddenly come back when they left me and sell me out if they saw my hair color so we used to color it light brown. However, after the incident at the restaurant 3 years ago I did change my hair color into dark brown, and my contact lenses color from gray to a hazelnut color, and my hairstyle. 

After Lady Miary dyes my hair, I thank her and she said that no need to thank her because she's enjoying to dye my hair. Then, before she left, she reminded me of tomorrow's schedule and I read what's on the paper aside from the activities of the princess that she will be attending and I read at the lower part where my name is there.

"What the heck is this?!" So, I stand up and go to Lady Miary's room

I knock when I arrive at her room before I open the door and she was sitting pretty while grinning at me as if she was waiting for me.

"Sofie I win. I told you, he will gonna read it." They even make a bet on me. So I showed her the paper and pointed to what was written there.

"I didn't expect you to read it, It's the first time," she said while stopping herself to laugh but she's smiling widely.

"Can you explain what is this?!"

"That's the rules in the palace Avy." 

"You're not tricking me? Maybe you even suggested this?"

"Why would I suggest it?" She denied. But I really feel she has something to do with it.

"Really? hmm"

"You can ask my father if you're not believing me," she said so I calmed down

"But why do I have to wear a maid's clothes and be your assistant?! I think you can take me as a knight there." Yes, you read it right. So I complain to her because she might be able to change the consequence.

"Yes, there is but I agreed since the Duke also agreed with what I suggested since in the palace if you are not a noble they will easily harass you like when you visited the palace even if you have a title of a knight but lacking social status will be hard to deal with it."

"You know me Lady Miary, I don't care what they will say to me as long as I fulfill my duty."

"I know and the Duke also, but I couldn't bear that they will be insulting you not just for my status but you are also my friend and thinking how will you feel even if you are not showing it. I know you are hurting inside!" she said and her tears started to fall and I was shocked by her emotion.

"I understand. Thank you for saying that Lady Miary. I really appreciate it." I said while trying to console her. I didn't expect that to be her reason because I thought she do it since she liked it.

"But still I don't want to be a maid. Can you just take me as is? I will just ignore them so don't worry about me." I said while patting her head

"No, we can't change that now"

"Why? we can request to change that I will be staying as a knight"

"No, because the letter was already delivered by now since the messenger have been gone 2 hours ago to send back the agreement," she said while wiping her tears

"What?! Noooooo."

"I'm sorry, Avy. We should ask you first before we agreed."
