Chapter 10

Elinya's pov Isabella continued. “There are stories… dark stories,” she said. “People who cross them end up losing everything. Their family. Their business. Their life.” I felt my heart drop. “I’ve heard that they keep a list,” she whispered. “A list of people who betrayed them.” I felt a cold shiver. “And if your name is on that list,” Isabella continued, “you don’t just die. You vanish.” My hands trembled slightly. “Isabella…” I whispered, my voice shaky. She placed a hand gently on my shoulder. “Don’t worry,” she said softly. “You’re not in trouble.” But her eyes were serious. “Not yet.” I swallowed hard. “I can’t believe I agreed to this,” I whispered. Isabella’s expression softened, but her voice remained firm. “You didn’t agree to a normal job,” she said. “You agreed to enter a dangerous world.” I stared at her, trying to understand. Isabella leaned closer again. “And one more thing,” she said. My eyes widened. “What?” I asked. Isabella’s face turned pale. “His name isn’t just Izar,” she said. “It’s… the name people whisper when they’re afraid.” I felt my body freeze. She whispered the name. And my blood turned cold. The moment Isabella whispered the name, the room went quiet. The silence felt heavier than anything I had ever felt before. My heartbeat thundered in my ears. My body suddenly felt too small for the space I was in. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t think. All I could do was stare at Isabella with wide eyes. The name echoed in my mind, repeating itself like a warning. Izar Alexandra Volkovich. The name was not just a name. It was a sentence. A warning. A curse. My hands tightened around the edge of my bed, as if holding onto something real would keep me from falling apart. I looked at Isabella. Her face was pale, but her eyes were steady. She wasn’t scared of the name. She was afraid of what it meant. My mind started racing. Why did I agree? Why did I say yes? Why did I trust a stranger? Why did I think I could handle this? I remembered the hospital. Rurik Volkovich’s calm voice. His offer. His money. His promise of training. My father. His struggle. My dreams. My desperation. All of it flashed in front of my eyes like a storm. I swallowed hard. “I… I shouldn’t have agreed,” I whispered. Isabella’s eyes softened. “You can still refuse,” she said. I shook my head quickly, almost violently. “No,” I said, my voice shaky. “I can’t.” Isabella looked at me, confused. “I don’t have a choice,” I continued, my voice breaking. “If I refuse, what happens to my father? What happens to my future?” I could feel my throat tightening. I could feel tears trying to break free. I blinked them away, refusing to let them fall. “I made a decision,” I whispered. “And now I have to live with it.” Isabella reached out and held my hand. “You don’t have to do it alone,” she said softly. “I’ll help you.” I looked down at her hand in mine. I could feel her warmth, her support. But I also felt the cold shadow of the Volkovich family creeping into my life. The truth was clear. I had just stepped into a world where people vanished. A world where names were whispered with fear. A world where power was the only rule. And I was the one who chose to walk into it. I closed my eyes. I tried to calm my breathing. I tried to convince myself that I could handle it. But the truth was— My mind kept returning to one question. What if I can’t? A Thought That Terrified Me I remembered the look in Rurik’s eyes when he spoke to me. Not anger. Not kindness. A cold certainty. Like a man who had already won. Like a man who didn’t accept failure. I realized then what I had signed up for. Not just a job. Not just a medical treatment. A life under the shadow of the Volkovich family. A life that could end without warning. I stared at the wall, feeling my body go numb. I couldn’t imagine treating Izar. I couldn’t imagine being close to a man who hated everyone. I couldn’t imagine being trapped in a world where one mistake could mean death. And yet— I couldn’t deny the truth. I was already in it. The decision was made. The agreement was signed. The path was chosen. And there was no turning back.
