DAVID'S POV
I was finally at the courthouse finalizing the divorce papers when I remembered Rosa's face and all those nights I had to pretend I had enjoyed s*x with her.
I let out a deep breath, trying to put those memories behind me.
My childhood best friend Jake was beside me for some support, sleeves folded up, and his gentle pat on my shoulder seeing my distant eyes.
"Brother. Are you sure about this? Because you know once it's filed, it's completely over. You better be sure if this is truly what you want."
I turned to face him, letting out a deep laugh before walking forward.
"This is the best decision of my life I have made in a long while."
He got up to me, looking a bit serious like he wanted to say something.
"Then I hope you find what you are truly looking for. Just so you know, I will always be here for you, brother."
"Thank you, dude."
I stared at the courthouse for a second, watching mostly couples come in and out.
"When you are ready to marry, my man, a piece of advice: don't go for a girl who can't seem to control her own body."
He scoffed a bit.
"Bro, you are still on Rosa? But she's sweet. Always has been. She just lost her spark for a bit, that's all."
"For a bit?" I muttered. "She gained so much weight like some hippo. I get she had some miscarriages, but they were miscarriages, so how did she get so fat without no baby? Every time we had s*x, it was like some obligation or punishment.
Most times, I have to watch some content just so I could get it up. It's so f*****g embarrassing."
Jake stayed silent.
"Come on, my man, it's Rosa we are talking about here, not some random girl."
"I know you think I'm being inconsiderate and awful, but you will never understand, you don't have a girl," I said as I dropped my papers on my lawyer's desk.
"All she did was cry about something we lost. Neglecting herself and me all along, while whining and laying around like some hippo, but somehow expects me to find her attractive with all those flabs and fatty tummy.
When we met, she was graceful and behaved according to how I wanted my future wife to be. I mean, I was always there for her. And after wasting all my resources to marry her and have a family of my own, how did she choose to repay me?
By becoming unwanted and irritating, somehow simply killing my joy each time I see her.
If you were in my situation, you would leave her too."
Jake sighed.
"Look, man... I hear you loud and clear. But she had two miscarriages, your babies, and I think she just got depressed for a bit, and all she needs is just small love and support, and she will be back to normal."
"Easier said than done."
I whispered.
Right then, the lawyer walked in. She was dressed in a tight black dress that hugged her every curve.
Four kids later and she still looks like this, flat tummy, around nice perky ass, the kind of body that will make any man forget his reason for living.
"David, it's been a while. Hey, Jake."
As she sat down, I caught a flash of her panties. My eyes lingered for a bit before Jake slightly tapped me out of it.
"Hey, you know she is married to Josh, right?"
"I know. I just remembered we haven't seen him for a bit."
"Yeah, sure, you w***e, just know Josh will literally kill you if you even think beyond."
I laughed it off, but somewhere inside of me, I knew marrying Rosa was a mistake.
If I was given another chance, I would certainly choose differently.
I remember how other guys acted when she and I were together back in college, all wishing, and now I'm sure they are celebrating somewhere that they never had a chance with her.
"Alright, boys, let's get down to business," Sharon said.
"So let's go through this again to make sure we are all on the same page. So, David, you and Rosa have settled for a peaceful and mutual divorce, and you want to file, correct?"
"Yes, correct."
"Alright, I will have It filed, and we will take it up from there, but it will take a few weeks before filing is completed."
"Not a problem. Please do take your time. And thank you so much for your time."
As I watched her leave, I couldn't help but wonder if I had dated her back in college instead of Rosa, how my life would have turned out.
All I know, it would have been better.
