Friends to Foes

My alarm goes off and I do not want to wake up. Mostly because its too freaking early. I forget for a minute why I’m waking up early. I think its because Shawn is here. But then I remember our fight yesterday and the fact Danielle is here and my mood sours. I get up and shower. I decide on a short white dress with open lacy sleeves. The back is also open and lacy as well and the front comes down in a wrap style with a belt. Its cute, but not new so it doesn’t make me feel as good as new stuff does. I pair it with some baby pink wrap up stilettos. I feel put together after my hair is done and my usual light make up. I head down to Danielle’s room and knock. She opens the door and she’s crying. It takes true willpower to not roll my eyes. “What’s the matter?” I ask, trying to sound caring. “I’m afraid of wearing any of this stuff. I’ll just look stupid. I’m not pretty like you and Mar. I’m just plain.” She wipes tears. “You are pretty! You just have to be confident. And I can show you that since I happen to be an Alpha!” I’m so full of s**t. “Let me pick everything out for you and get you ready, ok? You just sit back and relax.” I pick out a long sleeve green crop top and denim skirt with black flats since she refuses heels. I bring down my straightening iron and put some oomph to her hair and it works! I put a little liner on her eyes and some eyeshadow and highlighter to take away from how deathly pale she is. Her after is amazing! She looks pretty damn cute if I say so myself! I still think we should get her some extensions though. But maybe later on down the road.  When she sees herself in the mirror, she begins to weep. I have to almost slap her so she doesn’t ruin all my hard work. Seriously, where does all this water come from? I get my ice coffee, she says she hates coffee. She actually makes herself a scrambled egg for breakfast.  She eats before school.  Ew.  We pack our stuff up and head out. I let her know on the way to school that I’ll be having dinner with Shawn tonight. I leave out the fact we had a fight yesterday. I’m just like that. I told her Bentley will probably want to hang out with her after seeing her today anyways.  Hopefully. Shawn waits for me in the parking lot. He can’t keep his hands off me. Which is very distracting because I want to see Bentley’s face once I show off my handy work. I give him some makeout time by the car while Danielle waits very uncomfortably. Then I tell him he will have to wait til later for more. He looks disappointed. My wolf is also disappointed.  We walk into the school and its like a movie. Bentley is facing away talking to Nicky and Mar when we come around the corner. I smile and wink at Mar to let her know to tell Bentley. She taps him and tells him to turn around. He slowly turns around and looks absolutely shocked! What does he do next? Does he take her in his arms and kiss her? Does he tell her how sorry he is and that he’s made so many mistakes? Nope. He asks her why she’s dressed like that and  why she's wearing so much makeup. Asshole. It of course hurts her feelings and she runs to the bathroom and cries. “What the hell, Bentley? What is your problem?” I yell at him in the hallway around everyone because I can’t be alone with him anymore. “Did you do this? What is YOUR problem? Why are you dressing her up like that?” He demands. I hear a low growl and then a cough.  Oh, Shawn. “I gave her a makeover, you d**k. Since you are so hell bent on making her feel f*****g worthless and unpretty!” I’m pissed now. “I never once said she’s not pretty! Or worthless! Did she say I said that? This is just more of those games! He’s starting to turn a pinkish color. I pull him further to the lockers and lower my voice. “Bentley, I brought her to the place where I shop. I’m trying to help her out. Do you not understand what I’m trying to do here?” Goddess, Bentley. Wake up! Bentley looks over at Shawn and then at me. “Xan. She’s Danielle. You’re Xannie.” And then he turns and walks away. I take a deep breath and turn to the lockers to bang my head on them a few times. Shawn comes over and wraps his arms around me. “He’s right babe. You can’t change her like that. And even if you could, that’s not right.” He says softly in my ear. “Not right for who, Shawn? For Bentley or for Danielle? They both want to be happy together. I’m trying to fix things so they can be happy together! I can do this!” I turn and head to class. Goddess, this is so frustrating! And where the hell is Pete? Pete finally graces us with his presence at lunch time. He claims he had an appointment that morning but keeps acting strange. Bentley keeps giving Danielle the stink eye and she keeps looking to me for help. I’m already exhausted from being everyone’s savior.  Shawn comes strolling into the cafeteria with his hand behind his back. I want to be excited, but I have no energy left. I barely manage to get up and hug him. He hands me some pink and white lilies. They’re beautiful and I know he grew them because I remember seeing them in his garden. I kiss his face all over which I know just makes Danielle even sadder and me even guiltier. I miss when things here were normal. “The school fair is next week. Will you let me take you, Alpha?” Shawn says, trying to put a fry in my mouth and simultaneously using his other hand to run fingers through my hair. I groan. “Oh s**t, I forgot about that.” I mumble. “Don’t you have to get a gown for that?” Mar asks. I slam my head on the table. Any more head slamming today and I’m out of brain cells. “It will be an honor to see the future Alpha up on the stage at the fair!” Pete says, full of his shitty pack pride. Goddess, how does he even have room for food with how full of it he is. “We can go tomorrow to look for dresses?” Danielle says quietly. I lift my head quickly. I know how shitty of a day she has had and if this is gonna lift her spirits, I’m all for it. “Yes! And Mar can come too!” “I think I have to study for a test.” Mar says. “Yea, like I said. And Mar can come too!” I repeat, glaring at her. She rolls her eyes. “Fine.” “Ok! Girls night tomorrow! We can get Chinese too!” I say happily. Bentley glares at me suspiciously again. I itch my eye with my middle finger. In Geometry I ask Pete what the hell is going on. He acts like he has no idea what I’m talking about. I stare at him and I can tell he’s lying his ass off. But I don’t call him out on it. I skip study period because if I go, Shawn will just hunt me down anyways. I go sit in the bleachers and stare off into space. Tim walks up to me first. I’m already annoyed. “Well well well! Xannie poo! Feels like you haven’t been out here in awhile!” He says smirking. “If it isn’t Tim the turd. Desperately pissing off my mate at the end of the day.” I fake smirk.  Without any effort.  So it probably looks shitty. “Sassy are we today? Shawn is a big boy. He should be able to handle his own fights.” He says walking closer to me. “Tim, what you said was rude. And you know it. You can’t stand being called out, can you?” I finally genuinely smile. Out of annoyance. “I will never understand how you ended up with him. A gorgeous girl like you, an Alpha at that, with someone like him? Tell me, whats its like being with someone who used to talk about how they wanted to f**k you every day in the locker room before and after practice? Who used to compare your ass and your t**s to every other girl that he’s ever been with.” Tim said, still smirking. I know what he wanted, but he wasn’t going to get it from me today. I was too tired and done from dealing with Bentley’s s**t all week. “Well, lets see. It feels pretty damn amazing. Every time I climb up on top of him and ride him until I scream his name? Yea, it feels pretty amazing.” I glare at him. He shakes his head and he smiles, still slowly moving closer to me. He finally leans down on the bleachers next to me, his fingers just barely grazing my thigh. His voice lowers. “I would have treated you like the goddess you are. I would have worshipped you, every bit of you. I would have kissed those perfect lips every minute of every day.” He stared at my lips and then his eyes went back up to mine. “Don’t ever let him treat you bad, Xannie. Because there are so many more of us out here that would die to take his place.” “Yes, but they are not my mate.” I say quietly, a serious stare at Tim, scooting away from him. I look behind Tim and see Shawn standing there. His eyes are pitch black and he is just staring at Tim. My eyes widen in horror, because I know what is going to happen next. I jump down off the bleachers as Tim turns around to see what I’m looking at. Shawn shifts into a beautiful grey wolf. He has tiny little spots of auburn around his ears. He charges at Tim who has no time to react.  I hear myself scream. I ran to Tim and grabbed his arm. He’s already being attacked at this point. “Xannie! NO!” He yelled, pushing me back. I fell backwards to the ground on my ass. “SHAWN! SHAWN STOP IT!” I screamed. I could feel myself begin to shake.  Great job, Xan! This another one of your famous messes. Tim shifted into a brown and black wolf and began to fight back. Both wolves biting and clawing each other.  And I just sat there on my knees, weeping into my hands. Like the f*****g dramatic 17 year old I had become. Before I knew it, the coach and all of the players had come over and broke them up. Both boys lay with towels over them, still growling at each other. Alexandria Paradis. Queen of killing friendships! I just got up and walked to the bleachers and grabbed my bag. I noticed that Shawn had finally taken his eyes off Tim long enough to notice me. His eyes wide, his breathing still rapid from fighting. He was cut and bruised, bleeding all over, but I wasn’t going to dote on him this time. This was between the two of them. Whatever had happened, I didn’t want to know more. It would only strain our relationship. That was clearly what Tim wanted. I waited at my locker. For anyone. I didn’t even know who anymore. Pete clearly had something going on that he didn’t want to tell me. Bentley was barely even my friend at this point. Mar had Nicky. Danielle would probably want to go back to Red Harvest, not that she was really considered my friend anyways. And Shawn was so wrapped up with regretting his past now, he was attacking his best friend. I began to dream about how life used to be. How Bentley and Pete would meet me every day at my locker. Bentley with his silly inappropriate remarks and Pete putting him in his place. When Mar and I were best friends and Nicky was still just Nicky. Before it was Mar and Nicky.  Was I selfish for wanting everything back to the way it was? When everyone gave me the attention instead of each other? I guess I kind of answered my own question. I miss when life was just simple.
