Chapter Six

819 Words
It was a beautiful day, and Evie loved road trips. She, Mark and Hen had all woken up an hour early and decided to get a move on, driving through McDonald’s for breakfast along the way. They played games, listened to music and talked the entire way to Moores corners. After an hour of driving Mark pulled into a gas station and while he was filling up, the girls went inside and bought snacks and drinks for the rest of the trip. It felt as if the time flew by with them arriving at the bed n breakfast just before lunch time. “Well, I thought we would have been driving longer. We really could keep going and stay somewhere closer if you’d like?” Mark asked as he pulled into the carpark. “I love road trips so I’m cool with whatever you guys decide.” Evie answered looking at Hen “Keep going Mark! We can stop when you get tired.” She responded and Evie clapped her hands in excitement. So Mark pulled out of the carpark and kept driving, it really is a beautiful day, he thought to himself as he took in his surroundings and drove off down the road. Melbourne. “Have you been taking your medication?” Dr Sparks asked. Avalon made no effort to answer, she didn’t owe this person anything. She’d been staying here ever since she blacked out and trashed her room, before smacking her dad over the head. Or so she’d been told. Her father had not even visited or contacted her since dropping her off at the facility, and when she had asked her nurse or therapist if she could call him they had all said the same thing: It’s best that we focus on your recovery for now, we wouldn’t want to make any moves that might stunt the progress we’re making. She knew very well that he just did not want to hear from her and so he had told them not to let her call him. She hadn’t spoken a word to anyone in 2 days and she didn’t plan on changing that any time soon, she wanted to go home. Even if her dad didn’t want her, at least she could sneak Timothy in through the window or just go over to his place for the night. How long could they keep her here for? “Avalon. It’s important that I know if you’re taking your medication, a simple nod will do.” Dr Sparks said firmly. Avalon kept her eyes glued to the floor and nodded one single time for yes, the truth is that she hadn’t been. They delivered the meds to her room and she would spit it into the garbage bin as soon as the orderly left, she didn’t think she needed them. She knew that something had happened between her and her dad and she obviously couldn’t remember, which she agreed was a problem, but she had never done anything like this before. Why should she start taking medications over something that might not even be a reoccurring thing? She wished her mum was here. Avalon’s mother would of let her father leave her at this dump, she would of been there for her. Held her. Avalon missed her mother so much, she’d do anything for one last hug. Dr Sparks spoke again, pulling Avalon’s focus back to reality once more. “I suppose you can go back to your room now, I hope tomorrow you’ll be willing to cooperate.” Avalon rolled her eyes as she rose from her chair and proceeded to walk back to her room, didn’t he know that she would never want to cooperate with him? She didn’t need his help. And in that moment, she decided that what she really needed was an escape plan. When she got back to her room she lay down on the bed and started thinking of ways to escape and where she could escape to. She figured that she would go straight to Timothy’s house, and if that failed then she could go to her bestfriend Sarah’s house. Sarah was beautiful and kind, they had been friends since kindergarten and Avalon trusted her with everything. It wasn’t so hard to get out of the facility, the only problem was that Dr Sparks could have security grab her and sedate her if he felt she was leaving before she was well enough. If only her dad would take her calls or at least check in, he could have her discharged, but he wouldn’t do that. Because, he doesn’t want her around and he hasn’t for a long time now. A tear escaped Avalon’s eye as she lay on the bed facing the wall, but she made no sound. She just lay there silently crying and racking her brain for ideas on what her next move should be.
