The Room That Remembers You

204 Words
Alex stood at the center of the collapsing world—the flames licking her memory, the weight of every past version of herself pressing down on her lungs. The simulations were no longer loops. They were graves. “I buried myself a thousand times,” she whispered. “Now I’m digging out.” The corridor twisted as one of the Alex-echoes emerged, face cracked like glass, eyes burning. “You left us.” “I’m here now.” A glitch tore through the wall, revealing a shattered version of Molly—young, afraid, and fading. “Mom... why didn’t you come sooner?” Alex reached out, but her hands passed through her daughter’s image. The voice of Dr. Verin echoed from the sky: “You’re chasing ghosts. Let them burn.” “No,” she said, voice fierce. “I came to bring them home.” The fire pulsed—alive, aware. Alex stepped into it willingly. The scream of memory consumed her. End of Chapter 13 Chapter description (for Stary): Alex descends deeper into the simulation, where the fire isn't her enemy — it's her memory. But facing her other selves may cost her what's left of her mind... or her daughter.
