Chapter 2

I jumped as Micah came charging towards us, his eyes wild with anger. He shoved me aside and scooped Eunice up into his arms, his gaze locked onto me with pure hatred. "How dare you hurt Eunice!" he growled. "She's carrying my child! You pushed her, knowing she could miscarry! What kind of monster are you?" "I didn't push her on purpose, Micah!" I insisted, my voice shaking. "I didn't mean to hurt her." Micah stormed towards me, his hand raised. Before I could react, his palm connected with my cheek, the force of the blow sending me reeling. I gasped, my hand flying to my stinging cheek as I stared at him in disbelief. "Why would you slap me for Eunice?" I whispered, my voice barely audible. My lip split open, blood trickling down my chin, but Micah paid it no mind. My ankle was also gashed deeply, but that seemed to be the least of my concerns. "You're a heartless werewolf," Micah spat, his voice laced with venom. "You don't deserve to be Luna!" "I didn't push Eunice on purpose, Micah!" I cried, desperation creeping into my voice. "I couldn't control my emotions, and—" "Enough, Samantha!" he roared, cutting me off. "I've heard enough of your excuses. You've gone too far! You've endangered the future heir to the Emberwood Wolves Pack!" I stared at him, shocked. "Micah, that's not true. Eunice was having contractions, it was a natural—" "Silence!" he bellowed, his eyes blazing with anger. "I won't listen to your lies anymore, Samantha. You've made your bed, now lie in it." Micah gripped my jaw, his fingers digging into my skin. "Do you understand the importance of the baby Eunice is carrying?" he snarled. "You're acting like a fool, Samantha. You don't deserve to be Luna if you behave like this. You should be a rogue!" "I swear, it was just a natural contraction," I insisted, my voice shaking. "I pushed her slowly because—" "Enough with your lies!" Micah roared, his hand raising as if to strike me again. But Eunice intervened, pulling him back. "Micah, don't hurt her," she pleaded. "She didn't do anything wrong." Micah shook off Eunice's hold, his eyes blazing with anger. "You're the one who did something wrong, Samantha. I should have never mated with a worthless wolf like you." I laughed bitterly, the sound echoing around us. "I never expected you to defend a beta who's done nothing for you, Micah. I regret ever accepting you as my mate." "Save your pity party for someone who cares," Micah spat. "You're not the victim here, Samantha. Everyone knows I never loved you." Eunice winced, looking away. "I'm sorry, Samantha... this is all my fault..." "Don't apologize to her, Eunice," Micah snapped. "She deserves punishment for not being able to give me an heir!" I chuckled, a cold sound that held no humor. "I'm defending my rights, Micah. Is that what makes me an arsehole? You should consider that infidelity can't solve problems in a marriage." "Watch your mouth, Samantha," Micah growled, his eyes flashing with threat. "I'll rip your tongue out if you—" I cut him off with a laugh, Micah's threats no longer holding the power they once did. "You're all talk, Micah. I'm tired of your destructive behavior towards me. Let’s just divorce.” I had endured Micah's cruel treatment all these years, my love for him blinding me to his true nature. But now, I saw the truth – he never accepted me as his Luna, and he had betrayed me. "It seems the Moon Goddess had a cruel sense of humor when she made you my mate," I said bitterly, struggling to stand. I limped away, leaving Micah and Eunice behind, despite the pain in my injured ankle. I ran as fast as I could, tears streaming down my face as I cursed my luck. I found myself at Kiara Logan's door, the loyal servant who had worked at the pack house since I became Luna. "Kiara," I gasped, leaning against the doorframe for support. "Have you heard the news?" Kiara's eyes widened in shock. "Luna, what happened? The betas were whispering something, but I couldn't believe it..." I nodded, then pressed my face into my hands, the tears flowing freely now. I couldn't let them see me weak, not when they were already waiting for me to crumble. I couldn't give them the satisfaction of knowing they had finally broken me. "I know you're not barren, Samantha," Kiara said softly. "You're a healthy beta, you could have beautiful children." "No, Kia," I whispered, my voice thick with unshed tears. "I can't have children. I've been trying for so long, going to the doctor repeatedly... it's just not happening. And now, Micah... he's moved on, he's found someone else... I'm not the Luna he expected me to be." Kiara sighed, placing a comforting hand on my shoulder. "Pregnancy can be a complex thing, Luna. Stress, busy schedules... there are many factors that can contribute to it. And Micah... well, he's always been difficult. But you're strong, and you'll get through this." Kiara Logan wrapped her arms around me, her touch gentle and soothing. She stroked my shoulders, her movements a balm to my frazzled nerves. She was the only one who truly understood my plight, who knew the struggles I faced trying to convince Micah of my ideas, who witnessed the way he treated me like a servant, not his Luna. Now, everyone in the Emberwood Wolves Pack hated me. I had no idea what tomorrow would bring, but I knew it would be hell, thanks to Eunice. Micah would despise me even more, shunning me as he lavished his attentions on her and their unborn child. I would become a pariah, a meaningless wolf in his eyes. Even the Emberwood Wolves Pack, my pack, seemed to disrespect me. Micah and Eunice were expecting a child, but it wasn't mine and Micah's. The cruel twist of fate left me feeling more alone than ever. "Luna, what are your plans now? Are you considering breaking the mate bond with Alpha Micah?" Kiara asked, gently tucking a strand of my reddish hair behind my ear. "A mate bond is meant to last a lifetime, Luna. You can't break it on a whim, especially when you're emotional. The Moon Goddess has her reasons for pairing you two," she added softly. I sighed, my voice barely above a whisper. "But what am I supposed to do, Kia? Micah chose Eunice over me, despite all my efforts." Kiara's eyes held mine, steady and reassuring. "You need to stay positive, Luna. You're not barren, and one day, you'll have a beautiful baby. As for me, if you're no longer Luna here, I'll follow you. I won't stay and work for Eunice." I frowned, confusion etched on my face. "But why leave, Kia? You have a good job and a place to live here." Kiara's gaze fell to the floor, her voice barely audible. "I have all this because of you, Luna. Alpha Micah won't give me these opportunities if you're not here to stand up for me. I don't know what will happen to Emberwood Wolves under Eunice's rule, but I know I can't stay here without you." I sighed, my heart heavy with uncertainty. "I don't know what to do, Kia. I don't know what the future holds." Kiara stepped closer, her hands gentle as she tended to my wound. "I'll clean this up and bandage it for you," she said, her voice soft. "You should rest afterward." "I don't know, Kia," I replied, my voice distant. "I think I need to see my brother first. I need to clear my head." "That's a good idea, Luna," Kiara agreed. "You should calm down first and seek his advice." "I plan to leave tonight," I stated, my voice determined. Kiara's brows furrowed in concern. "Luna, you can't leave tonight. You're hurt pretty badly." "This isn't a wound that makes me weak, Kia," I said, my voice steady. "It's the wounds on the inside that are truly crippling me." Kiara's eyes filled with sympathy. "You deserve to be treated like a queen, Luna. Not by Alpha Micah, but by someone who truly loves and appreciates you." I managed a small smile, then shrugged. "Please bandage my wound and help me pack. I'm going to stay with the Witchwood Wolves for a while." "You're going to stay there?" Kiara asked, surprise evident in her voice. "It's the best way to move forward," I said, my voice resolute. "I'll stay one night and talk to my brother about everything." "I'll pack some snacks for you, Luna," Kiara said, her voice caring. "You haven't had lunch yet, have you?" "Thank you, Kia," I whispered, my heart heavy with the knowledge that I would miss her dearly. "I'll miss you." Kiara hugged me tightly. "Luna, can I come with you? I don't want to stay here without you." "I don't know, Kia," I said, my voice soft. "I'm not sure what the future holds, but I promise you, we'll get out of this hellhole."
