Chapter 27

679 Words

Chapter 27 Two days earlier: Howard Knife found himself in an untenable situation. He had fled to River Falls, Wisconsin. It was a simple straight run due eastm and then a short jog south. He was familiar with the area. In his youth he had spent a couple weeks each summer at his grandparents farm. They had died a few years ago. Their old farm house stood empty. The house was still sturdy, but weather beaten. The barn was near total collapse. The back side had already fallen and was gradually pulling the front over. An old farm tractor that was cobbled together out of parts from a Model A ford, was just inside the barn door looking out at him with its two headlamps. It was the first vehicle of any kind that he had ever driven. As he recalled he was only nine or ten at the time.
