CHAPTER 24 WHEN I GOT to the kitchen the next morning, feeling both human and out of this world, there was no sign of Oliver, but Bridget was stirring something in a mixing bowl. “Toast?” she asked, giving me an obviously forced smile. Her lips may have curved up, but her eyes were hard. “Yes, please.” She rinsed her hands and walked to the refrigerator. “Oliver said I’m to make sure you eat lunch.” Oh, so he had spoken to her. It didn’t seem to have made much of a difference to her attitude. “I won’t need much.
