Chapter 8

Chapter 8 Olinda The Lottier’s sidelight stabbed out into the darkness, sweeping across the damp biocrete tunnel ahead. With a jolt, the world snapped into solidity as my eyes adapted to the light and filled in the gaps in my scent-sight. A shape, something big, slipped across the tunnel. Water splashed. A large swell moved downstream. No time to fire. I held the Lottier steady and eased on up the path along the stream. Behind me, in my scent-sight, Drac’s luminous, rust and blood-smelling shape, stayed put beneath the scatter cloth shroud. The only sounds now were those of dripping water and the stream rushing past. Plus the faint squelch with each step from my water-laden boots. I stopped moving, sure something was watching me. Whatever sentry was down here, it hadn’t just fled.
