Muriel nibbled a cracker, trying to think how to tell the scientists what they wanted to know. The words spun around in her head like a school of fish, slipping out of reach.
The break was almost over. They were looking at her, clearly wondering what she was going to say.
Dyami crouched beside her chair, bringing his orange-striped head down to her height. Muriel resisted the urge to reach out and scratch his chin. He wasn’t a pet. He might be young for his species, but he was an intern with the Shanley Walsh agency.
Shanley. Her heart ached thinking of him left alone back on Olinda, no word on what happened to any of them. A mystery that he wasn’t likely to solve, even as clever as he was. Would be. As old as he was, he wasn’t even born yet!
