Enhancer’s asteroid
Unbelievable. I sat up on the bunk in the Enhancer’s cell. Even here Pike’s memory scan was dredging up memories that I didn’t want to relive. Particularly not the gruesome aftermath at Amundsen Station.
It took four hours to complete our search of the facility. In addition to the two bodies that we had discovered on arrival, we found six others. Everyone in the facility had committed suicide. Hanging, drowning, with knives and pills, they all had found a way to kill themselves.
I spent two weeks in quarantine. The culprit? A proto-organism found in the ice, released into the atmosphere by evaporation, it affected the human brain, depressing the production of neurotransmitters which led to feelings of hopelessness and suicide.
