Chapter 31 Olinda, Orlando Pike’s fortress, 2978 Bright light stung my eyes as I stepped out of the corridor into the sunny courtyard. Two guards, covered head-to-toe in black uniforms complete with helmets, had walked with me from the sensie room where I’d spent the past few days. The passages leading out were mostly biocrete but covered in rich tapestries and other works of art. Sculptures stood in alcoves and in the centers of the halls. Native Olindan plants mingled with plants from many worlds to create a rich, layered garden. Left alone the plants would have quickly swamped the place, which spoke of the time it must take to maintain.
