I scream, but my mouth shuts the moment he plunges us into the water—like the ruthless man he is. I cling to his neck tightly, pressing myself against him as if my life depends on it, while the water swallows us whole.

The time he spent locked in my house must’ve messed with his brain because, all of a sudden, he’s turned into this strange version of himself who smiles, laughs, teases me, and acts mischievous. Even his eyes shine brighter, making him the most alive I’ve ever seen his usually dark personality.
When we come up to the surface, I spit out water and glare at him, furious, while he laughs and brushes my wet hair from my face. My legs are still wrapped around his hips, the only thing keeping me from sinking.
