Chapter 1

Jennifer left her workplace at almost 11 pm. She is the owner of a restaurant, under the Davis Group of Companies. However, it was her who managed and grew it into one of the most extinguished French restaurant. Her 27-year-old self has settled for just a restaurant to manage since she graduated as a chef and also took business management--a double degree. She is so confident in her cooking skills that she asked her father to give him the rights to manage Davis Deluxe Restaurant. It wasn't that much of a big deal, so her father gave it to him, and the rest of her family didn't complain. As she walked out and went to the parking lot, she received a call from her friend---Lea. "I'm on my way," she immediately said as soon as she answered the call. "Seriously, who leaves work at 11, Jennifer?" "Me," she responded as she placed her phone on the car's phone stand. "Seriously, just get your ass here in 20, no, in 15 minutes!" Jennifer chuckled, and before she could even answer, Lea had already ended the call. While she was starting the engine of her car, she couldn't help but shake her head. If they weren't close enough she would have called it rude, but because they are friends, it didn't matter. When she arrived at the bar, her friends charged her---offered her a lot of drinks in compensation for being late. She just laughed at them and drank a little bit of the drink. She has a high alcohol tolerance. However, she would still limit her alcohol intake because she's driving home. "Why don't you just enjoy the night and, you know, hook up with someone?" Lea shouted at her because they couldn't clearly hear each other due to the loud music. Jennifer shook her head, "Not interested!" "Psh, such a bummer!" "Why don't you just go and enjoy the night, Lea?!" she said and used her head to point at a guy who had been looking at their place---clearly checking out on Lea. Lea smirked as she turned around, and then she faced Jennifer once again. "I'll catch up on you later, I might have a very busy night. So enjoy it!" she said and sexily walked towards the guy. For the nth time, Jennifer slowly shook her head because of her friend. She checked on her watch and immediately got alerted when it was already 1 a.m. "My god, look at the time. I have a morning meeting tomorrow. Damn!" she said and quickly took her things and ran towards the exit. On her way, she just texted her friends that she would go home first because she needed to be there early tomorrow. Although she knew they wouldn't reply because obviously they were busy, she just sent it to inform them, in case they looked for her. While on her way out, she walked past different guys who were trying to hit on her. Fortunately, they weren't persistent, so she went out safely. When she got inside her car, she was hesitating, hesitating about whether she should drive or call for someone to drive her home. However, because she couldn't afford to waste more time, she decided to drive. I only drank a little, and I can see clearly. My house is not that far from here, just one highway, and I'll be fine. Jennifer visioned that she would go home unscathed and that she would go to work tomorrow, still with a lack of sleep, but in a good mood because it's another day to work. However, she took a turn of events when a light appeared in front of her as she was driving. Her eyes widened in shock and she couldn't move her body. She could hear the screeching sound of the car's wheels, but more after that, she couldn't fathom what was happening. Her body stopped moving as it crashed into the truck, her car crashed, and she was barely holding on. She heard horns of different cars, murmurs and shouts from around her, but all was lost when she closed her eyes. And that was the last time she heard about herself. *** "Her vitals are stable and she has finally regained consciousness," Jennifer slowly opened her eyes as she heard someone talking. "How about her family?" "We contacted them through the information from her bag and phone, but they haven't responded since they paid for her operations and bills." Jennifer didn't have time to process what they were talking about and just slowly checked on her surroundings. She was in a hospital. When the doctor and nurse noticed her, they immediately went near her and asked her questions. "Hello Miss Jennifer, can you hear me? If you can, can you please blink your eyes?" Jennifer did as what the doctor instructed. She wanted to speak but she couldn't. There were many things she wanted to ask but couldn't. But one thing is for sure, her name was Jennifer--and that was the only thing she knew. A week had passed since she woke up and the same doctor appeared in front of her when she was finally stable and she could already talk. "Miss Jennifer, can you talk now?" "Y-yes--" it was a whisper, but the doctor could hear her. "Do you know who you are?" he asked. "I--I d-don't know.." she answered. Upon hearing Jennifer's answer, the doctor released a deep sigh and he looked at the doctor who was also with him. "It's amnesia, the impact of the accident affected your brain," Jennifer could only look down and a lone tear left her eyes. "M-My family?" she asked. The doctor this time, was hesitant, but because the patient has the right to know, she answered, "We have contacted them, they paid for all your bills, medicine, and accommodation, but after that we lost contact. I am so sorry." This time, it wasn't just a lone tear that escaped her eyes, but many. Did my family abandon me? What's wrong? Who am I really? That question lingered until weeks passed. Jennifer stayed in the hospital until she was finally well. The door to her room opened, and it revealed the same doctor who she met when she woke up, and the one who had been taking care of her. "Doc Deverell," "Didn't I tell you to just call me, Doc Fred?" Frederick said and that made Jennifer's cheeks turn red. Although she didn't have any memories with her, she could still definitely point out a handsome man, and for her, Doctor Frederick Deverell was handsome, charming---and definitely hot. Jennifer could feel her cheeks being hot so she quickly removed those thoughts. "I have good news for you," Fred said. Jennifer's eyes lightened because of what he said--it was her eyes full of anticipation. Fred smiled, "You can finally be discharged." However, contrary to what Fred expected to be Jennifer's reaction, Jennifer wasn't delighted at all. Because she didn't want to be discharged, because she knew she didn't have anywhere to go. My family abandoned me. It means they don't want me back. I don't have anywhere else to go. "I-I don't want to leave. I don't have a place to go." Jennifer said, and that made Frederick freeze. He finally realized that what he said wasn't good news at all to the patient--to Jennifer, who he had cared for for a month in the hospital. "I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to--" "You don't have to be sorry Doc Fred, it wasn't your fault," Jennifer said as she stared in the air. When Fred noticed that, he felt so sad for her. And because of that, he unconsciously said words that came in the spite of the moment that he could never retract. "Well, why don't you work for me?" Jennifer's eyes widened and she felt delighted. Doc Fred was willing to take her in. She thought that it was a blessing for her, but in fact it was the start of something interesting--and something wild.
