The Wolves

I hate these tedious jobs. We have underlings for these babysitting jobs. But I know that I wouldn't have been asked if it wasn't important. A high-ranking angel as myself or I guess, a fallen angel now, stooped so low as to do demon work. Anger rolled through me, as it often does when I think of our fall. I had picked a side, unfortunately for me it was the wrong one. "There she is." Leon, who was next to me mind linked, bringing me out of my downward spiral that usually takes me to the dark recesses of my mind. I look up in the direction of the church as the girl drifted into our view. I lowered myself to a crouch, Even if we were in the cover of the woods, one can never be too careful, not to mention we were practically on enemy territory. I could feel Leon becoming restless next to me. He wasn't used to this kind of thing, I couldn't blame him. This waiting game is dull and completely a waste of my time. "Should we make ourselves known?" He spoke and began moving forward. She suddenly turned in our direction, she must have sensed something moving. Tactless wolf. "STOP MOVING," I yelled through the link. He let out a low whimper as my command froze him in place. The girl stood there for a moment searching, then turned her attention back to her car. I looked at Leon, I swear I will rip him a new one if he ever pulls a stunt like that again. Why do I always get stuck with the rejects. "Next time that you want to rush into something, don't!" I say pointedly, "The time isn't right yet. We are just watching for now," I mumbled as I turned my gaze back towards the girl. I saw him look at me questioningly, I could tell he was trying hard to hold back his tongue. Exasperated with him already, "What?" "When will it be the right time?" he linked with a low voice, careful not to try to anger me. "I've been at this far longer than you. You need to learn to be patient," I let out a low growl to remind him that I was in command. "Yes sir," he spoke as he cowered again. Focusing once more on my task, I hadn't even noticed when this other human came up. "Leon, who is he?" "Uh....he said his name was....Kai. Yeah," He linked happily while wagging his tail, he finally did something right. "Is something wrong? "No, I don't think so," but something about him didn't sit right with me. I would have to keep a close eye on him too and make sure that he didn't get in our way. I was already on thin ice with our Traitorous Father. Which explains why I got stuck with the likes of Leon in my pack. I need this to go smooth without any surprises. Leon began to link me again, I can never get any piece and quiet with him around. "So, what's so important about this human girl?" "That's not your concern is it?" I growled. Hell if I even knew. I was told to be here and watch her and report back, but I wasn't going to say that to Leon. At that moment I felt that we weren't alone in the woods, but I couldn't take a chance to look around, lest we be detected by the humans. I could feel the hackles on my neck raise as if electrified. Dammit, how long have they been here watching as well. "Leon, someone else is here," I felt him stiffen next to me, "Don't make a move, we can't let anyone else discover us." Finally the humans parted and we were in an empty parking lot. I turned and followed the scent, as we got closer to where it seemed the strongest I decided to shift to my natural form. My angelic form that is now damned for eternity. I stood there looking around, taking in the scent, there was something familiar about it. Definitely not human. I haven't sensed anything like this in a long time, but I couldn't quiet figure it out. If Leon hadn't been distracting me from my job I would have been focused more and picked up that we were being watched. Leon had traced the scent going deeper in the woods before he turned back. I shook my head, "Leave them, they will be long gone by now." Voices began to fill the quiet parking lot as the people made their way out,"Lets go," I said as I turned and shifted once more. Thats two things. Two things that I missed, I hate being caught off guard. We turned from the church and made our way back to the pack house.
