Running through the woods felt good. I reveled in the change of weather. I could feel the bite of ice in the air as I took in a deep breath. Snow would be coming soon, I thought to myself. As I continued to run, letting my muscles and legs stretch and enjoying the change of weather. I began to slow down when I noticed the soft pieces of snow falling. I took in a deep breath, as the scent of cold wood and pine filled me, there was another scent in the air that I hadn't noticed before. I snapped my head in the direction that the scent was coming from. Alert of all my surroundings now. How had I not sensed this earlier? My muscles tensed as I began carefully following towards the source.
I knew the scent, not this one in particular, but most of these creatures had a similar scent. But I have never run into them this close to my home or civilization, for that matter. They were definitely near by now, the smell had become more intense. Staying back hiding between the trees as I began to search the area. There they are. The Wolves. I smirked. They must be pretty preoccupied if they haven't sensed me yet.
I stared at them for a moment. The smaller of the wolves had small patches of white with bigger spots of red brown tinged with gray on the ends. The second of the two was bigger than the first, mostly white fur that turned black and gray near the ends. This one was definitely a high- ranking wolf. The once graceful angels who stood in fron of the golden throne, once clothed in white now stained with their betrayal forever. Yeah, definitely a high ranking wolf, curious as to why he would be out here getting his hands dirty. The other wolf was understandable why he would be. This could be very interesting.
They sat there close to the edge of the woods but still low in cover. They were waiting for something, but for what? I furrowed my brows as I began to look towards the open area. We were on the border of a church. Ugh.... I hate these types of places. I always avoid them if I can. An uncomfortable feeling came over me and I began to look to the heavens. We don't have the best relationship, or any at all. I scoffed to myself, I kept up my defenses, alert for anything. Even as much as I detested this kind of place, these wolves detested it even more. So why are they here? I moved in closer, making sure to move quietly as to not be noticed. I can avoid being detected by almost everyone, but when it comes to wolves, well, that was different.
I turned my attention back to where they were watching. We could see the parking lot, then a human girl walked into our view. I examined her, she looked ordinary. She stood for a moment catching the snow and a smile came across her face. I smiled as I watched her for a moment, in an instant she turned her attention to the woods and her eyes crossed the direction where I was. I hid behind a tree. I know that human eyes aren't that good as ours, and I was deep enough that she wouldn't be able to see me. But there was a gnawing at me that told me to hide, like she would see me if I didn't. Strange. I relaxed a bit and began to peer out again. She was now standing there talking to a guy. I tightened my jaw, as I stood there and watched and listened to their clumsy interaction. He was definitely into her. Her name was Lucia.
I don't know how long this had gone on for, but I had almost forgotten the reason why I was here. I turned to the wolves. They were still just watching. But why? Was it the girl or the man? No, it had to be the former. She looked ordinary though. There is something that I'm missing. I glanced at the wolves, they just continued to watch. She has to be special for Lucifer's dogs to be here. Especially a high-ranking one.
The sound of the car door closing brought my attention back to Lucia. After a while, the wolves began to stir, once the man, Kai, I believe, was out of sight.
I had better get going before they finally notice that they weren't out here alone.
I turn back and make my way silently into the thicker part of the woods before I spring into a run. Once I get back I need to find out more about this girl. There is more than meets the eye. What is still unnerving is that sensation that I felt like I needed to hide. The fear of being caught, and not by the wolves. Humans are generally not perceptive, but I just couldn't shake that feeling.
