CHAPTER 4
My heart races as I watch the blue limousine park roughly in front of the house.
Before I could think, I was snatched away from the window. I whimper from my father's tight grip. His white shirt was soaked in sweat and his black hair disheveled, his face was swollen from Adriano's punch.
“Now you listen to me,” he said hoarsely. “If Alejandro sends you back home, I'll make sure I kill you before he kills me.”
Matteo pushes Adriano back on the chair when he is ready to charge at papà. His cheeks were dark purples and he had a fresh bruise down his eyelids. I hated the fact he got injured trying to protect me. He's more protective of me than any of my other brothers.
“Am I f*****g clear,” his nails penetrate further into my skin, and a tear slides down my face. “Yes.” I forced out.
The front door opens, and he quickly lets go of me. It was one of the men that held my brothers at gunpoint earlier. “Are you ready?”
I nod weakly, avoiding eye contact. ”Let's go.”
I look at my brothers who stare at me in awe. All of them except Adriano felt inferior to my father. They depended entirely on him and defiance meant he could disown them. Francesco and Matteo held Adriano, I'm glad they did. I turn and without a word, leave.
Alejandro was in the limo staring out the window. He looked at me immediately as I stepped out. I was a bit happy he showed up.
The man opens the door for me before heading back into the house to take my stuff.
I sat on the seat facing Alejandro. His blue eyes catch my brown ones. I stared at him, slightly bewildered; I never noticed how handsome he truly was. There was a scar above his eyebrow; his face was firm and tense. Everything about him was tense. His dark short hair fell backward, but some fell in front of his face, making him more handsome. His jawline wasn't too perfect but it was just right.
“Did you take all your important things?” He asked curtly.
I nod and he stares at my hands for a while before looking out the window, gritting his jaw in sudden anger.
I wasn't ready for marriage. Especially when I'm still in college, I love school; it's my escape, and I didn't want to be a woman who'd be a burden to her husband. I did people's homework and worked in a fast food restaurant to pay Adriano's fees since papà wouldn't.
I won't blame Alejandro for his decision; at times, I did feel like killing my father out of anger. “I thought you weren't going to come,” I said softly as the car began to move.
I noticed Alejandro relax a bit, but he didn't look at me, “Mhm… I wanted to make sure you arrived safely.” Of course, if I was going to marry a Mafia King, my life would always be at risk.
He seemed uncomfortable as I stared at him, but I didn't look away. I was still grateful for last night. “I'm sorry for what I did last night but thank you for cleaning me up.”
He mutters something in annoyance and looks at me angrily like always. “It's fine…did you take the pills?” He grumbled.
My lips curl up in amusement. “You did that?”
His scowl deepened and he looked away, “Is there a problem?”
I smile gratefully. Despite what my father did, he still did that. “No, thank you for caring…it's cute,” I mumble the last part.
I'm sure he heard it because I felt him stare at me from time to time throughout the journey.

Alejandro's house was like an empire. It was huge and the living room had a very high ceiling. There was a staircase leading to God knows where. It was spacious, exactly what I liked.
“I'll show you to your room,” Alejandro growled from behind me after retrieving my luggage from the car.
I felt bad he had to carry my heavy stuff, especially since there were mostly big books in the bags, but he didn't even act like he was carrying anything at all.
He pushes open a door with his knee and waits for me to walk in before entering. My jaws almost dropped at the sight of the plush interior of the room. It's like he knew exactly what I liked. There was a mini library in the room, a floor- ceiling window leading to the balcony, a king-sized bed with a blue duvet neatly spread on it, and then an iPhone laptop on the bedside table.
I've always wanted an iPhone laptop, but I couldn't save enough to get it. ”Is this my room?” I turn to see him scratching his neck.
“Mhm, do you want another one?” He asked, and my eyes widened.
“Of course not, this is okay, thank you.” I felt like hugging him but I know he'll glare at me to death if I do.
“What about the laptop?” I ask, looking at my feet and biting my lips.
“It's yours, every room has one.” He walks to the door and I look up at him.
He seemed like he was angry at himself for something, “Be down for dinner in thirty minutes. I'll introduce you to my family.”
“Do they know about me?” I ask and he nods.
“Yes, not like it's important.” He grumbled and left before I could say anything.
I release a long breath and look at the room before falling on the bed. I've never been on anything this comfortable.
Maybe I'll just take a short nap. I take off my clothes lazily till I'm only in my underwear. I try to stand to lock the door but the bed's warmth drifts me to sleep mode.
———
“Ariana,” Someone calls, and I flinch, thinking it's Leo. My eyes fluttered open, and I saw Alejandro staring at me in anger and confusion; his eyes were dark as he ogled my body.
I blush in embarrassment when I realize I'm only wearing underwear. “I'm sorry, I… forgot I wasn't home.” I stood and our bodies were close.
His eyes meet mine, “Dinner began ten minutes ago. I was waiting for you.” He said angrily and somewhat hurt.
My face falls in realization. I kept him waiting, “ I didn't mean to. I-”
“Put on some clothes, I'll be waiting outside.” He said with gritted teeth and walked away.
I quickly put on a blue pajamas with white dots. I smile looking at it. I loved this color so much. Since Adriano and I wore matching clothes most of the time, and there was only pink and blue of this, he had to take the pink. I remembered the look on his face when his girlfriend laughed at him during a sleepover.
I really miss him. I want to tell him that Alejandro isn't as bad as we thought. I really need a new phone, I had to sell my old one to buy books for Adriano.
I stepped out of the room, and Alejandro's eyes darted to me immediately. He looked at the pajamas, and for a moment, he almost smiled.
“I didn't notice the disparity,” I smile, staring at his gray sweatpants and white shirt and then at my pajamas.
“It suits you well,” he mumbles, unsmiling, and I grin like a child. He looked at my finger, and his gaze softened.
“The ring's gorgeous,” I say and he looks at me with a less tense look as if happy I liked it.
He wrapped his hand around my waist and we both walked downstairs.
There were three people at the dining table. Alejandro took out a chair for me and I sat. He sat next to me, his fingers covering mine, which was on my lap.
“I never knew your fiancee was this pretty Alejandro,” The girl who sat in front of Alejandro said. She looked familiar, she had green eyes and was blonde like the older woman who sat next to her.
“Where are your manners, Isabella?” Alejandro snarled at her, and she frowned.
“Watch the way you speak to your sister, Alec,” The older woman scolded, and I smirked at the name. Alec. Alejandro glared at me when he noticed I was smirking, but I just grinned, and he looked away unbelievably.
“Don't chide me in front of my fiancee,” he warned curtly, and the woman looked at me and smiled, ignoring him.
“Sometimes he forgets I carried him for eight months; he had always been an impatient child,” She says mockingly, and I chuckle in surprise. She looked nothing like him but she seemed fun.
“I'm Sofia, and you are Ariana, right?” She asked politely.
“I've told you already so why f*****g ask?” Alejandro glared at his mother who winked at him in return. His grip on me tightens as he fumes.
I chuckled in amusement but nearly flinched when I met the cold glare of the man sitting next to Sofia, who was the carbon copy of Alec.
He rested his jaw on his fist as he watched me.
“Are you going to keep pretending like a f*****g disabled?” Alec snarled at the man who I'm guessing is his father.
Sofia and Isabella tensed and I'm sensing this dinner is not going to go well.
His father smirked at me, “Forgive my manners, I'm Stephano, Alejandro's father.” He said cockily.
I nod a bit afraid of him. The dinner continued quietly and I could sense the tension between Alec and his father. Sofia began asking me questions to ease the tension.
“Alec said you were born in Berlin but raised here, is that true?” She asked in anticipation and I looked at Alec in shock.
How did he know that?
Before I could reply, the door opened, and a half-naked brunette walked in. Alejandro takes his hand away from mine and Stephano smirks.
“I've missed you a lot, Alejandro,”
