RunawayBride

Chapter 1: Runaway Bride The moonlight glinted off Gina's silver fur as she darted through the pine forest, paws pounding against the soft earth. Her lungs burned, but she didn’t stop. Couldn’t. Tonight was supposed to be her mating ceremony—a union of two powerful wolf bloodlines. But Gina wasn’t about to be bonded to a stranger just because her family said so. Misty. She reminded herself of her new name, her human name. That identity was her only hope for freedom now. She skidded to a stop near the edge of the woods, where a small duffel bag waited—pre-packed and hidden days ago. Clothes, cash, a new phone, fake documents. Everything she needed to disappear. Her heart ached as she took one last look over her shoulder. She could already feel the magic breaking—her pack bond unraveling, her father's fury echoing in the distance. The disappointment in his eyes the night she refused to speak of the arranged mating still burned in her memory. Memories of her mother—gone too soon—and the cold presence of her stepmother Olivia only strengthened her resolve. Misty refused to be another pawn in the power games of wolf politics. “You’ll thank me later,” she whispered to no one, shifting back into her human form. Shivering and barefoot, she dressed quickly in jeans and a hoodie, stuffing her silver necklace deep into her bag. The bus station was three miles away, and she ran like the wind. Her mind swirled with a million questions. Would her father send trackers after her? Would the pack mark her as a traitor? Would her gift—her silver wolf form—be enough to protect her in the human world? She didn’t know. But she did know this: she would never return. Not until she chose her own path. The bus’s headlights sliced through the darkness as she reached the gravel lot, chest heaving and adrenaline pumping. She handed the driver cash, slipped into the back row, and curled into herself. As the bus rumbled to life, Misty glanced out the window. In the distance, a powerful howl echoed across the trees—deep, strong, and unlike any she’d ever heard. Her pulse quickened. She didn’t know it yet, but someone had just noticed her. A wolf she would never forget. A wolf who already knew who she was.
