Chapter 5: The Pull
The following week, Misty found herself seated across from Sutton in the student lounge, an untouched coffee between them.
He was talking about his pack, the responsibilities he’d one day inherit, the pressure of leadership. For once, he wasn’t bragging—he sounded tired. Human.
“You don’t talk much,” he said.
“Maybe I’m just listening,” Misty replied.
He laughed, a real, low laugh that made her stomach flutter. “You’re hard to read.”
“Good.”
He leaned forward. “You keep things close to the chest. I like that. It means there’s something worth protecting.”
She looked away. He was too perceptive today.
He suddenly reached out, his hand covering hers. Her first instinct was to pull back—but she didn’t. His touch was warm, grounding.
“You can trust me, Misty,” he said. “I’m not like the rumors.”
“You kind of are,” she murmured.
He smiled. “Fair. But maybe I’m trying to change.”
She stared at him. Her wolf was still wary—but her heart… her heart wanted to believe him.
That night, Misty dreamed of him. Not Sutton the arrogant Alpha, but Sutton holding her hand under moonlight, brushing his lips over hers.
The dream shattered when her phone buzzed.
A text from Alicia:
Alicia: “Hope you’re enjoying my leftovers.”
Misty stared at the screen, her blood boiling.
She knew she should walk away.
But something about Sutton kept pulling her back in.
Whether it was desire, destiny, or danger—she wasn’t sure.
But she was already too far in to turn back now.
