Mara POV
"Mom?" I answer immediately, dread already pooling in my stomach.
"Mara." Her voice is shaking, fractured. "It's Diana. She collapsed at school. They're taking her to Ravenstone General. Her heart…"
The world tilts sideways.
"I'm coming." I'm already moving, grabbing my purse, my keys. "I'm coming right now."
The drive is a blur of traffic and panic. Diana's childhood heart condition—the arrhythmia that doctors said was managed, controlled, no longer a threat. She'd been doing so well. The treatments Lucien paid for had stabilized her.
This wasn't supposed to happen.
I abandon my car in the emergency lot and run through sliding doors into fluorescent hell.
"Diana Quinn." I'm breathless at the registration desk. "She was brought in by ambulance. Heart condition."
