Ethan quickly fled the scene. Laura was perplexed. What was wrong with him? Did Edward wake up?.
She spun around and around, but she didn't notice anything strange. Edward was still lying on the bed, and his breath remained tranquil and unchanged.
The only difference was that one of his hands was outside the duvet.
Laura cantled her head and scrutinized the hand for a while, and it looked lifeless.
Edward ? Laura called cautiously. There was no reply. She tilted forward and called out more staunchly, Hi, Edward. She didn't get any replies.
She gobbled and walked slowly to the bedside. She tenderly held his hand and put it back under the duvet. Edward didn't move at all, putting her mind at ease.
Probably Ethan had a false perception. Laura exhaled a sigh of relief.
The room changed to its usual calmness. Laura's pulse was pounding mysteriously. She was scared that Edward might open his eyes. She sat at the edge of the bed and looked at him closely.
A moment later, she fell asleep due to the stress and woke up to see herself at the edge of the bed. Edward has not moved an inch from where he was yesterday, and her mind is at rest.
Laura went to the bathroom to freshen up, and when she noticed the mark on her hand, it looked like someone had gripped her hand tight recently. As she recalls her encounter with Ethan, it was his doing.
Disgust welled up inside her as she thought of that snitch. She went out of the bathroom and put on long-sleeved clothes to cover the scratch.
She finished dressing up and went downstairs, when Ethan appeared from nowhere and dragged her to the visitor's room.
Did Edward wake up last night? He mumbled into her ear to avoid someone hearing. Laura's gut twisted with distaste. She took a step backward and replied bluntly, No, he didn't.
Okay, that's good. My eyes deceived me last night. For a while, I thought Edward opened his eyes and gave me a piercing look. It was just a hallucination.
Ethan took a sigh of relief and beamed with his familiar warmth.
The smile used to send shivers down Laura's spine, but now she despises it. She cast her gaze down so he wouldn't see the disgust in her face.
Blind to reality, Ethan felt that she was down because of what happened last night. He expressed a tender apology. I am sorry about what happened last night, Laura. I didn't mean to be rude to you.
Laura coerced a smile; it's alright. She then constructed a lie so that she could leave the room immediately. When she got to the sitting room, she saw that Ryan was already seated on the couch.
He was a stern-looking man who always kept a straight face. After Laura greeted him, he only gave a subtle nod. He emitted a chill of apathy.
But Edith, Edward's stepmother, was passionate. She was Ethan's biological mother, so she probably knew about his scheme. It was a plausible justification for her extraordinary hospitality.
All the family members came downstairs for their breakfast, and Laura felt restless throughout the breakfast. As they finished eating, Ryan took her to a hospital owned by the Harrison family.
Ethan showed up, and when Laura was being directed into the operating room, he gave her a discerning look. Laura picked up on it.
She nodded to reassure him that she hadn't forgotten the plan. But the moment she swung around, she gave a deadly smile. She walked into the operating room with an icy stare.
A feeling of unease settled inside her like a chill, but when she remembered how Ethan had deceived her, she clenched her jaw and tightened her fists. She was single-minded, focusing on vengeance and taking back her rightful possession.
The surgery took about two hours. Laura's face had a ghostly pallor as she was being escorted outside by Ryan. The doctor took off his gloves and said to Ryan, Mr. Harrison, that the surgery went fine, but we will have to wait for three weeks to confirm if it's successful.
Ethan's face shrank as he heard this. Ryan's face lit up with smiles and joy, and he gave Laura a warm look. He told one of the drivers to take her and Ethan back home.
On their way home, Ethan was boiling with anger and flushed with rage, but he didn't utter a word.
Laura didn't bother talking to him; she peered out of the window, caught up in her thoughts.
As soon as they alighted from the car, Ethan freaked out. He took hold of her and dragged her to the backyard to give her a stern warning.
Laura, I thought we concluded on disrupting the operation; why don't you do? Ethan grunted.
She pushed his hand away and gave him a stern look, then hissed loudly. Ethan buried his face in his hand and smiled mischievously. What did you just do? Are you using your right senses?.
Laura's heart raced when she saw his angry look, and she wanted to make a quick exit when Ethan dragged her back.
Did I tell you to go? Don't you ever walk out on me? Laura I am not done talking to you. Blazes of fury burned in Edward's eyes.
Laura was terrified and irritated, and she struggled to escape, her eyes blazing at him.
Release your grip on me. Ethan grasped her hands and rested. This was not what we agreed on. Are you trying to play a trick on me? Did you think you could dump me?.
There's no assurance you will get pregnant. Even though you do, Edward will not be able to protect you and the child.
How sure are you about that? Edward is conscious. Laura smirked. No matter what you do, I am still your sister-in-law, so let that stick in your mind.
This word drove Ethan crazy, and he raised his hand and wanted to slap Laura.
But before that could happen, one of the housekeepers rushed out of the house and told Laura that Mr Ryan is looking for her. Edward just woke up and wanted to see you.
