I woke up to the sound of a beeping machine.
For a moment, I didn’t know where I was or how I had gotten there. The last thing I could remember was lying on the floor.
I struggled to open my eyes, and after a while, I finally did. My vision was blurry at first, but I could slowly make out that I was lying on a hospital bed.
“Is there anybody here?” I managed to call out with the little strength I had, but my voice came out weak and low.
I rubbed my eyes with one hand, trying to clear my vision properly. Gradually, my sight became clearer, and I managed to sit upright.
That was when it hit me.
Ever since I was taken to Damien’s house at sixteen, I had never once stepped outside.
Could this be… my only chance to escape?
My eyes lit up at the thought of freedom. Real freedom.
Even though my body Was weak and aching, I forced myself to move. I gathered whatever strength I had left, pulled the needles out of my skin, and slowly managed to stand.
As I stood, my legs wobbled and I almost fell, but I quickly braced myself against the wall.
Step by step, I walked slowly toward the door with my legs unsteady.
When I reached it, I looked through the transparent glass.
At first, it didn’t make sense.
There were no nurses. No movement. No voices. No sound at all.
Then I realized.
This wasn’t a hospital.
This was still Damien’s mansion.
I would recognize it anywhere, even with my eyes closed.
The wolf portraits hung all over the walls. The hallway was always dim, almost dark, as though the lights were never fully working. The atmosphere itself felt heavy and suffocating. Even the silence in this place was different, it was cold and terrifying.
My chest tightened.
I collapsed to the floor in silent tears, feeling completely hopeless and terrified.
There’s no way out… I’m doomed for life with this monster, I thought painfully.
I suddenly heard footsteps approaching the room i was.
Fear tightened in my chest, and I quickly forced myself back onto the bed, pretending i was still unconscious.
If it was Damien… and he realized I was awake… I knew what would follow.
I feared him. I feared what he would do to me.
It was clear he despised me. He treated me like I was his sworn enemy.
I couldn’t risk my life like that, so I lay back on the bed, pretending I was still asleep.
The footsteps grew closer.
Then I heard an unfamiliar voice.
“I hope she’s fine.”
“Who was that?”
I aaked myself in confusion.
Damien was extremely private. I never saw his guests. I barely even heard voices that weren’t his.
He didn’t just hide me from the outside world… he hid me from his own world too.
Ever since I was brought here, I had only physically seen and heard two people, the staff members assigned to me. I was certain there were more staffs in the house, but I haven’t seen any because I was always confined to my room.
That was how deep Damien’s hatred ran.
Curiosity began to grow inside me as I desperately tried to figure out who was coming toward the room.
I lay still on the bed, keeping my eyes shut.
The footsteps grew louder and closer, and with every step, my tension increased.
Then suddenly, a loud bark echoed through the hallway.
“What are you doing here?” a voice snapped angrily.
Damien.
I would recognize his voice anywhere, even in my sleep.
I froze.
Who was he talking to?
“I’m just checking on her,” the unfamiliar voice replied.
“Checking on her?” Damien repeated sharply. “Leave.”
I didn’t hear any footsteps leaving.
Silence stretched for a moment.
Then Damien spoke again, his voice colder this time.
“Why are you still here when I ordered you to leave?”
“She was badly injured when I saw her last. I just want to make sure she’s alright, Alpha.”
There was a pause.
Then Damien’s tone dropped dangerously.
“Do you mean I am not fit to take care of my guest?”
“With all due respect, Alpha… you treat her more like a prisoner.”
Rage exploded instantly.
“How dare you!”
A loud crash followed immediately, like someone had been violently thrown into the wall.
My body jolted.
I could hear it, bones shifting, something breaking in ways that didn’t sound human.
This… this was unreal.
After that, everything changed.
The sounds were no longer human.
They became growls… animalistic, deep, and terrifying.
I curled tightly on the bed, squeezing my eyes shut in fear.
I didn’t even see him shift, but I heard it.
And that alone filled me with terror.
My only prayer was to survive the night.
I never imagined I would die at the hands of wolves.
“What if they try attack me now that they’re in their wolf form?”
So many thoughts flooded my mind, and my entire body trembled uncontrollably.
The hallway echoed with the sound of two creatures violently pouncing on each other.
The fight continued.
I could hear walls cracking, objects shattering, and the entire house shaking with the force of their struggle.
Then, suddenly there was a whimper.
One of them was hurt.
I wanted to move. I wanted to help. But fear pinned me in place.
I couldn’t.
I prayed silently that no one would die because of me.
The whimpering continued… then I heard a voice, weak and trembling.
“I’m sorry, Alpha… please don’t kill me.”
Then Damien spoke.
“You should have thought of that before you dared to defy me. Anyone who defies me must face the consequences… and for you, that consequence is death.”
“No, please don’t kill me!” the voice begged.
A violent crash followed instantly, like someone had been thrown into the wall with brutal force.
I heard a howl, it was long and painful, then followed by heavy breathing.
My mind spun.
What just happened?
Damien’s voice returned, filled with fury.
“How dare you interfere! How dare you enter my territory!”
Another shift of bone echoed through the hallway.
Something was still going on.
Something worse.
Whatever was happening outside…
felt like the beginning of a war.
