Chapter 17 – Start the Game

2228 Words
The following day came and I went to class normally. Just like before, their attention is still on me. I stayed for another night at their dormitory since Livia was still not awake when I got back. I didn’t bother to tell them that I was with Damian. When I arrived at our classroom, I proceeded towards my seat and saw Livia already there. She waved her hands at me but I didn't bother to pay any attention to her. Vlad told me that she doesn’t remember who kidnapped her or even what happened. We didn’t pressure her to remember anything and decided to let it be. We will just observe and keep our eyes on her every second. She looks fine now. She managed to make a smiling face so, I guess she's alright. I sat down on my seat and immediately closed my eyes to take a nap. I haven't got a good night's sleep again. Thus, I heard the professor come in. How did I know without even looking? I can hear all these students making a fuss. "We have a transfer student." The professor stated which made me pay attention. I was curious to see who it was but there is no one beside him, maybe the person is still outside of the room. "Introduce yourself, Sir." He stated and the guy finally came in. My eyes widened when I saw who it was. Did I hear the professor, right? Transferee? Him? Then, I noticed his gaze locked on to mine. I also saw how the entire class changed their gazes in my direction. I sighed as I avoided their deadly stares by looking at the window beside me. Why the hell is he here? "I'm Damian Xavier Lasiere, a transfer student from Eris Academy." He simply said. You can hear the coldness in his voice but everyone applauded. It seems like they like him. Compared to my introduction everyone was silent as if they saw someone dangerous in the room but he is way more dangerous than me! He looks like he's about to kill someone with those eyes even though he isn’t doing anything. He is one good-looking man but he is dangerous... I sense it right from the very start of our meeting. "Sit there in front of Miss Dandlers." The professor said and pointed to the seat in front of me. There are still too many vacant seats why here? I didn't bother to complain. I prefer to get some sleep. Hours had passed. Thankfully, no one bothered me in my sleep. I looked at my wristwatch and it was already 12:26 pm. No wonder I hear my stomach grumbling so loudly. I immediately lifted my head but I accidentally bumped into someone. He was groaning so badly. I might have hit his nose. "Are you alright?" I asked as I came near him and tried to touch him. Acting like I’m concerned. Nonetheless, I saw him remove his hands away from his face and I finally saw who it was. I quickly step back away from him. "You're the one who's near my face. It's not my fault. Why the hell are you even there?" I asked irritated. "No reason." He simply answered smirking. I was taken aback when he suddenly pulled me out of the room. "Let's eat. I've been waiting for ages." He added. Ages? It's only a minute. I had no choice but to come with him. Besides, I'm really hungry. We both ran towards the cafeteria. Why do we even have to run? But never mind that question! It's better than this because I can't explain why my heart is beating fast again. Is it the reason that we are running? Or is it the reason that he is holding my hand so tightly? I noticed that we were finally in front of the cafeteria when he stopped. He didn't stop because we were finally nearby. We stopped because Vlad and the others were in front of us. "It seems like the rumor is true. Damian Lasiere is in our school." Vlad said looking pissed at Damian. "No need to be alarmed. I'm not here to fight nor kill anyone." Damian answered with a bored tone but I was surprised when he pulled me towards him out of a sudden. "I'm just here for her." He added grasping onto my shoulders. I noticed Vlad flinched from where he was standing. I even saw that he was about to take a step forward towards Damian but I saw Livia tightly gripped onto his arm. "Let's just eat," I said to break the tension building up between the two. I pulled Damian inside the cafeteria and we ordered our food after. When we were finished getting our meals, he decided to join Vlad's table. We were finally in our seats when I noticed that I was in the middle of those two. I don't like this kind of seating arrangement. It was organized like this, Damian - Vivian - Vlad - Livia then in front of us is Tyler - Liam - and Jade. We ate silently, no one dared to talk but I saw Livia getting uncomfortable. "What's wrong?" I heard Vlad ask her. "Nothing." She answered shyly and began to eat again. "Damian." I now started to talk. They all stopped eating because they all looked at me, especially the man I called. "Can you tell us the reason why did you transfer here?" I asked wondering. By then, I saw his face become cold once again. "You really want to know?" He asked and put down his spoon and fork. "Yes," I said straight to his face. "Someone's trying to kill you." He said without even considering the people listening to him. I saw him observe the people sitting at this table. "I sense that the person is at this very table." He added then began to eat again. My eyebrows met after hearing his absurd statement. What the hell is his problem? Those words can get him in trouble! Is he even scared of what might happen to him? He is not on his territory anymore to act like this. "You dare to accuse us now!" Tyler suddenly shouted. My eyes widened in surprise but not by his way of saying that but because I saw blood coming out of his nose. He might have realized that because he touched his nose. When he saw his hand with blood, he fainted. "Tyler!" Jade shouted trembling. "Hurry and bring him towards the dormitory!" Vlad shouted and Liam hurriedly carried his brother. Thankfully, he has a bigger build to carry him so easily. I stood up too to come with them but Damian held on to my arm. "What now?" I asked. "Be careful." He only said and finally, let go of me. I ignored his warning and went with them without glancing in his direction. Damian was left at the cafeteria alone. Vlad and Livia went ahead to the dormitory first. Livia might be shocked by what happened. When we got inside the dorm, Liam proceeded upstairs with Jade talking on the phone, maybe it was Tyler’s doctor. My eyes caught Vlad embracing Livia in the receiving room of the dorm. I thought that she was crying but she wasn’t. She was in a daze while Vlad continues to caress her hair. Then, Livia’s eyes shifted to mine. Her face was expressionless like a doll's. She simply looked at me then averted her gaze. I didn’t pay attention anymore and went upstairs. I saw Tyler already lying on the bed, tucked in with a blanket by his brother. Jade was beside Liam staring at Tyler. I went in and quietly sat at the edge of Tyler’s bed. "What is wrong with him?" I asked Liam. "Acute Myeloid Leukemia." He said and smiled bitterly. "How unlucky right?" He added and hold on to his brothers' hand. "As much as possible I don't want to involve him in this world of ours but he insisted to watch over me. After all, he will die in the end, that's what he said." Liam explained. I saw tears start to fall from Jade’s eyes. “Excuse me.” She said and went outside. She is the most affected in this situation. She probably cares for him so much. I took a glimpse at the sleeping man on the bed. "You really are unlucky," I whispered. Then, I saw the door open a few minutes later and a doctor came in. He immediately checked on Tyler's pulse. "Was he stressed?" He asked us. Liam nodded as an answer. "Always make him feel at ease Liam, we would not want such a terrible thing to happen, right? He is getting weaker day by day." The doctor said seriously to this guy. I saw Liam quietly nod at him. “Come with me. We need to talk in private.” The doctor said and Liam did what he was told. I was unable to hear what they were talking about. I didn’t bother to pay any attention. They were talking to each other downstairs. They might take longer. As expected, it took an hour or two and Liam came in once again with the doctor. He checked on Tyler once again. "Then I'll take my leave. Let him drink this when he wakes up." The doctor said and gave something to Liam, maybe it was Tyler's medicine. "Thank you. I'll escort you out," Liam said to the doctor and they finally went outside. Tyler and I were left alone again inside the room. I went towards him and carefully tuck him inside the blanket. I was staring at this weak guy calmly sleeping when a bullet landed on the wall. I didn't even hear the gunshot. My face was almost shot. "Again?" I whispered and went towards the balcony. I immediately checked my gun under my skirt. I don’t want to make a mistake again. Afterward, I jumped down the building. This was Jade’s room and it's only on the 2nd floor of the dormitory so I can manage. When I safely landed on the ground, I saw men running into those woods again. The sun was blazing up the sky yet they can freely move unnoticed. The deeper part of the forest is dark so they always go there to hide. The class is in progress as of now so, there are no longer students in that part. They might be searching for Livia again or they are here for me to kill me one more time. I hurriedly ran in the direction where they were heading. I'll make them pay for startling me to death damn it! My chest still feels stuffy and every time it beats fast or I get startled, it hurts. I'll f*****g kill them all! "Where are you going?" Someone suddenly stated which made me stop. I immediately glanced at the person who owns that familiar voice. Damian was leaning against a tree. "What are you doing here?" I asked whispering. "I was ordering my men-" And I cut him off there when I heard him say 'his men'. "So, you are the one who is trying to kill me," I stated surprised pointing my gun at him but I saw his eyes turn colder than before. This isn't the reaction that I was expecting. "I ordered my men to kill the men who tried to kill you." He explained. My eyes widened from what he said. I put back my gun under my skirt. Did he do what for me? Yet, he turned his back away from me and was about to walk away but I stopped him. I pulled his hand to face me. "Why are you doing this for me?" I asked. "Because I said I find you interesting." He stated as he looks at me and lifted my chin. I removed his hand from my face but he just snickered a laugh. "Other than that reason, you might be important to me. I still don't know yet." He added. "What?" I asked confused. What does he mean? "Well, our game… hasn't started yet." He changed the topic and looked me in the eye. So that's what it was. I'm important since he can't start that stupid game. "Don't tell me that you already forgot about it?" He asked which made me snapped me out of reality. “That game… what will I get in return if I win?” I asked. He averted my gaze. “I’ll do anything you ask.” He answered. I can benefit from that. “And… what if I lose?” I asked and that is when he looked into my eyes once again. “You won’t.” He said smirking. How does he know about that? "Then let's start," I said without even thinking. I noticed him frown from what I had said. Is there something wrong? Yes, there is! Why the hell did I even say that? "What?" He asked in disbelief. Does he want me to say it again? Is he deaf or is it that he didn't expect what I've just said? "Let's start the game now," I stated and at that moment I saw him smile. "Then let’s start the game..."
