Chapter 3 – A New Life

It was a warm sunny day, a perfect day to start my new life. I took a glimpse outside the windows of my room. The unfamiliar scent and place, make me uncomfortable. I just came here yesterday. So, I haven’t adjusted yet.

I glanced at my door when I heard someone knock. It was open. I saw Wayde standing staring at me with his arms crossed.

“Let’s go.” He stated. I tied my hair first then followed him after.

He will be the one to teach me everything that I need to know. He was the oldest among the children and I can tell that he is an excellent assassin. I can’t sense his presence and I can’t hear his footsteps.

I was already observing him from yesterday until now. At such a young age, he already became an assassin. So, he must be outstanding. I hope that I will be able to learn fast and catch up with them.

We arrived at a very spacious place. There were various kinds of areas to train your shooting, archery, boxing, and many more. I also saw different kinds of weapons that were hanging around the corner.

This might be the training grounds of this house. Although it was underground, it was clean. The other children were already training, I should have come earlier but Wayde told me to wait for him.

As we were walking, two people caught my eye. They were fighting by fist. They were already covered in blood but no one seems to be going to wield from the fight.

We continued to walk and stopped in front of a firing range. He went towards a pile of guns lying on a table. He chose one and handed it to me. I still don’t know what kind of guns they are so, I can’t tell.

“You should start with this.” He said, I nodded as a reply.

“Let’s start.” He added and held on to my shoulders. I flinched. I'm not used to unfamiliar people touching me but I'll get used to this soon.

“Are we not going to use that?” I asked pointing at the earmuffs at the table.

“You won’t be using that when you’re on a mission. It’s better to get used to the sound of these loud guns. Now, aim.” He said and I did. He fixed my postures first then stared at me.

“Now, fire.” He ordered as I pulled the trigger, trembling. Yet, I stopped shooting when I felt Wayde’s hand that suddenly held onto mine.

“Don’t tremble. Try to overcome your fears. Look at the target and aim for the center. Imagine that it was the person who you wanted to kill.” He explained. I glanced at him but he was too close. His face was an inch far from mine. I immediately averted my eyes.

“I-I’ll try,” I said.

“She sucks at this. HAHAHA,” I heard someone say behind us. I didn’t notice that the children were already watching me. Even those two that were fighting with each other were here, they were still bleeding.

“You should go back into training. Mr. Azier might come down.” Wayde said as he moved away from me.

“He won’t, I heard a visitor came by.” A girl said.

“Still you-,”

But he was cut off when Clint came forward and talked.

“Hey, you stiff, fight me by fist.” He stated.

“No!” Wayde strongly refused and hid me behind him.

“What are you doing Wayde? Everyone should be beaten to a pulp on their first day in training so, we can tell if she can stay or not.” Another kid said.

“Still, no,” Wayde said.

“You shouldn’t be like this Wayde. Don’t tell me you started to like this b***h that’s why you’re protecting her. Even if she has a pretty face, you can’t be tempted. You’ll only be in trouble.” Clint said sarcastically. Wayde didn’t bother to answer him.

“Answer me!” Clint said as he charged into Wayde.

“Fine, I’ll fight you,” I said, he stopped. I don’t want anyone to start a fight because of me. I don’t care if I get beaten up but I will never leave this place.

“Good,” Clint said and walked towards the mat where the two kids were fighting a while ago. It was still covered in sweat and blood.

“Surrender if you know that you can’t continue anymore,” Wayde told me looking worried.

“No. I won’t ever… surrender.” I said and followed Clint. The kids were around us shouting.

“Good luck!” Clint mocked as he charged in towards me. I tried to dodge his fist but I was slow. I got punched in the face which made me fall.

“STAND UP!” Everyone shouted. I tried to stand up with a ringing sound in my head.

It hurts!

I spit the blood that I tasted in my mouth. He punches hard. I need to move fast if I want to avoid that strong fist.

We began to circle the mat. Tension was beginning to rise. I tried to strike but he was able to dodge it and managed to land a blow at my stomach. I shouted in pain. It hurts so bad. I badly want to cry.

I saw Wayde looking worried, he wants me to stop this but no, I can’t.

I stood up straight as I stared at the man shouting in glory. This isn’t the end. When I saw him turn his face towards my pace, I tried once again and punched him in his stomach, he was taken aback. He was looking down, shaking. I don't know what is happening to him but I was surprised when he began to laugh so loud.

What is he laughing at?

“Is that it?” He said as he tries to calm himself. He can’t and just continued to make fun of me.

I had enough of this!

I charged once again but I was blocked by his hand.

“You’re not ready for this yet. You should get some sleep first.” He said seriously. He was scary, the way that he said those was frightening.

Nevertheless, I was surprised when he punched me continuously. I fell to the ground as I coughed blood.

It hurts like hell!

I saw him walk away from me. We are not finished yet!

“HEY!” I shouted angrily as I stood up.

“We’re not done yet!” I added as I tried to keep my posture straight. I saw his surprised face as I charged in once again but he effortlessly avoided me. I can’t control my body anymore so I lost balance and fell.

“Hey, are you stupid? Do you badly want to die?” He asked when he came near me and flicked my forehead. My visions were blurry. I can’t see well anymore but I can tell that he’s smiling.

“Glad you didn’t give up. Welcome to the family.” He unexpectedly said.

“WELCOME!” Everyone shouted.

I was overwhelmed by the feeling to the point that I can’t help but cry so hard.

I’m finally accepted.
