My father has been dragging me around the world on trips for almost 6 months now. We have been making the necessary introductions and building relationships with new business partners in preparation for me taking over the company. It's been stressful being away from home so much and having to rely on my best friend Blake to run everything while we were gone. Blake has done a wonderful job, but I know he is ready to take a step back and spend time with his family. That's something I have envied for some time now when it comes to my best friend. I've watched over the last few years as he got the girl and started a family. Don't get me wrong, I love Blake and Casey and their children. I see them as my family and couldn't be more proud to have them in my life. But I can't help but wonder when my time will finally come. Today we are going into the main office in Atlanta. Due to the last six months of travel, I have not been in the office in some time. My father plans to make the announcement today of my move into the CEO position. He feels that now I can easily manage the family interests at home that I am now ready to take over the family business. We get there early, my father is the ol' "if you're not early then you're late" kind of man. Most everyone at the company has been with us long enough to know this. When we got to the boardroom to get an early start, I noticed an empty seat. Mr. Jacobs, the VP of finance, states that his direct report Ms. Brooks, the new manager of the finance department, will join us shortly and we should proceed with the meeting. As we begin, we start discussing future expansion and meeting upcoming business needs due to the expansions, when suddenly I smell something that reminds me of spring. Like a fresh breeze after an afternoon rain and I can't help but start looking around trying to locate where it's coming from. Suddenly a curvey little brunette walks in and the scent hits me full on. She quickly scans the room, but never makes eye contact with me. Finally, Mr. Jacobs speaks up and calls her Elizabeth, and tells her she is right on time to begin the finance report portion of the meeting. I can't help but stare at her with a slight sense of scrutiny as I take in her appearance. She is nothing like the women I typically find attractive, and I can't begin to understand why she would be the one to send my previous notion of the perfect woman into a tailspin. She has her hair curled and it's as big as a Macy's day parade float, she has false eyelashes on, cherry red lipstick, hazel eyes, and a round face with high cheekbones. She has a pale complexion that gives her an almost snow-white appearance. She can't be more than 5'3" tall and carries most of her weight in her bottom. She is pear-shaped but with large round breast, that can't possibly be real. She has a small waist, but her hips, thighs, and bottom is thick and round. She almost looks like some kind of cross between Dolly Parton and Betty Boop. I typically find myself attracted to tall, athletic, blonde model types. So why can't I take my eyes off of her? I've barely heard a word she's spoken due to this internal struggle I am having with myself over this woman. Once she finishes and makes eye contact with me she quickly looks down and blushes before returning to her seat for the next presentation to begin. For the rest of the meeting, I scan through her file on the HR drive. I know I shouldn't but I need to know more about this woman. My father leans over and see's what I have pulled up on my laptop and smirks a little. I hope he hasn't figured it out. The last thing I need is for him to run home and blab to my mother. She will be so excited, she'll drive us all nuts. After the meeting concludes, my father makes it a point to bring her over for introductions. I gave her a stern look and I scrutinized her appearance further. Not wanting to give anything away to my father, I keep the greeting short and move along quickly. I don't need him detecting my excitement before I have an opportunity to figure out how I'm going to handle this. But something tells me that this little woman is going to be a firecracker and won't easily be tamed. Goddess, why do you treat me this way? As soon as I get back to my office, I call Blake. "Blake, I have a special assignment for you. I need you to find out everything you can about an Elizabeth Brooks that works in the finance department of the company." "Sure, can I ask what's so special about this miss Brooks?" Blake replies. "That's why I called you. I want to find out if there is anything special about her that I may need to know." I replied and then hung up the phone. As soon as I look up from my phone, my father is standing in the doorway with a smirk on his face. "What are you smirking at?" I ask. "Oh, nothing" he replies and walks in to take a seat on the couch in my office. "Son, if you have found her. Then you will have the perfectly made person to share your life and struggles with. Then I can truly step away from everything.". I roll my eyes, I don't want to have this conversation again. We've had the same talk almost daily since I turned 18. He tells me how he would never have been successful had it not been for the help of my mother. "Dad, I appreciate the concern. But please let me handle this on my own and do not say a word to mother. The last thing I need is interference from her," I said.
