On the Saturday after returning from Burra, Pat spent the morning doing his washing. Then he did some grocery shopping at the local supermarket, before sitting down to a fresh bread roll stuffed with smoked ham, tomato and cheese, and a bottle of his favourite shiraz, for a late lunch. Over the course of the afternoon, he thought about their failure to pick up the trail of Jane and Andrew’s killer and emptied the bottle.
