Life inside the Remand Centre was nothing like John had imagined or experienced. The noise was unbearable. The sounds were harsh. Men called out. Doors clanged. Bells rang. The lights never went out. The guards dictated his daily routine. John felt like a caged animal and yearned for the space and familiar silence of the farm, the silence of the great outdoors which was only broken by the sounds of nature.
