CONCUBINE

Tegan POV When I saw Devyn driving away, my heart hurt. I may never know the love of my mate or being able to show my love to my mate. I just continually make things worse with her. “Monet, I accept your apology. I don’t know that I’ll be able to trust just yet. I’m sure you understand. I’ll try to get past this. I promise. You’re a good person and I care very deeply about you. I want you happy. I don’t know what to say or think about Elmondo. He seemed pretty upset.” Monet seemed terribly upset, “He betrayed me, Tegan. I honestly thought he cared for me and what we shared would stay between us. Never would I have spoken those words if I didn’t genuinely believe he was my chosen mate. Now look. I’ve made a mess of everything.” I managed to smile just a bit, “The truth would have eventually come out. I hoped that part would have been kept quiet but now I just have to figure out how to deal with the consequences.” We parted ways. To be honest, I’m more worried than I’ve let on. Tomorrow Devyn is calling Saliana’s former roommate. I’m not certain if she knew we had a s****l encounter or not. I decide to do a facetime call with Nevin and Oak to see if they have any news. Nevin, “Well, I’ve found out so far that: 1. No one cared for Saliana because they thought she acted better and was more determined. 2. Whoever the guy is, he travels with bodyguards.” “Bodyguards? Only someone enormously powerful would have bodyguards attached to them.” Oak, “My informant says that Saliana was planning to leave the club next month. Apparently, she bragged that her mate had all the plans in place to take her away from the strip club. Plus, my informant said that Saliana was overjoyed about being pregnant with this guy’s baby.” “Wow! Good job guys. I never know you two had informants.” We laugh a little. They have no idea how much I appreciate them with their undercover investigations. The key word being ‘undercover.’ Devyn POV I drove to the court wearing a more casual but within limits wear today. The pants were the slim fitting ankle pants paired with a short sleeve pink silky blouse. The attire is intentional. Today, I’m calling the roommate of Saliana to the stand. My plan is to make her feel as comfortable as possible. The last thing I want to do is to make her feel like I’m a snooty stuck-up b***h. Entering the court, I notice Tegan right away. He must have sensed me too because he immediately turned to look at me. His eyes met mine. I saw a sadness that I hadn’t noticed before. He lowered his eyes to the ground and proceeded into the chambers. I felt the sadness too. It must be the mate bond. Elder Bevis, “Morning all. Devyn, call your next witness.” “Yes, Elder Bevis. I call Misty Fursemore.” It took a while to get her last name. She goes by Misty Rayne at the club. I understand the reasoning. I’ve never heard of such a strange last name. Out walks this tiny she-wolf. When I say tiny, I mean tiny. She’s no more than 5’2 and maybe weighs 80 lbs. She is pale which is highlighted by the fact that she has black hair. Her face is skinny but pretty. Her eyes match her hair. I can see the attraction men would have towards her. Elder Bevis goes through his normal spill about answering questions and telling the truth. Then I’m up. “Hey, good morning Misty.” I say while she acknowledges. I can tell that she is extremely nervous. “Remember, you’re not on trial. Try to relax. I’m here to help your former roommate to get justice.” Misty shakes her head at me and then looks away into the observers. “Let’s get started. How long was Saliana your roommate?” Misty, “When she arrived and got the job, Matt suggested we room together since my last roomy moved the prior week. I think we stayed together about 8 or 9 months.” “Who’s Matt?” Misty, “He’s the bartender at the club.” Aww, I have a name now. I smirk a little and walk around the room. I notice this pissed off look Tegan is giving me. Strange! I’ve not noticed that look before now. “So, describe Saliana for me.” Misty glaring into the observers again, “She was quiet. Most of the other dancers didn’t associate with her. She wasn’t like us. We were fun. She preferred reading, staying at home most nights after work, and practicing dance moves. I don’t know much at all about her. Sorry, but I think questioning me is a waste of time.” Again, she moves her eyes to the observers. I turn to see who it is in the audience that she keeps staring at. It’s Alpha Samus Hogan. Interesting. He’s not attended the proceedings until today. I guess he makes her nervous or is her support. Let’s find out in a few. “Do you know if Saliana was having a s****l relationship with anyone?” Misty, “No.” That was too quick of an answer. “Did she ever have anyone over at the apartment?” Obviously nervous due to her shifting in her seat. Elder Bevis interjects, “I suggest you answer Attorney Holland’s question.” I look up to the Elder and give him a small smile as a thank you. Misty, “She did. I walked in on them having s*x. It was some low-life who couldn’t possibly be in a relationship.” “How do you know he was a ‘low life’?” Misty, “I’d had s*x with him before a couple of times. He’s a player. And no, we don’t ask names.” “Was it Dr. Moss?” Misty, “No.” I can tell I’m not getting much more right now out of her about this guy. I shift to the next question. “Did you know that Saliana was pregnant?” Misty, “I did when she kept waking me up. She was really sick throwing up most mornings.” “Besides being sick, did she mention how she felt about the pregnancy?” Misty, “She was happy. She said the low life was the father. She actually believed they were mates.” I see her look in the audience once again. “Do you know the name of this low-life by his real name?” Misty, “No.” I see her shift again. I’m fairly certain she is lying. “Why did you move to the pack house?” She glances up at me. I’m certain she had no idea that I knew she had moved. “I couldn’t afford the apartment alone.” “From my understanding, you can only move there by invitation. Who invited you?” She looks to the audience. I’m assuming it’s Alpha Samus who she is staring at. “Alpha Samus Hogan invited me.” “Now, why would Alpha Hogan invite you?” Misty, “We’re in love.” I freeze when I hear a deafening growl from the audience. Alpha Hogan is not happy with her response. She starts crying on the stand. I’m not sure if she is scared or sad. If that growl were aimed at me, I’d be shaking with fear. “Misty, I’m finished with questioning now. I may ask you more questions later.” I turn to Elder Bevis, “Can we put an order out that Misty has protection and is held in an undisclosed location until the trial has concluded? I’d hate for something to happen to her.” I see Elder Bevis take the suggestion into consideration. He eyes Alpha Hogan questionably. I’m not sure what the answer will be because he doesn’t like me, but I believe he might just be an honorable judge looking for the truth. Elder Bevis, “I have a question.” He turns to Misty, “Are you a concubine of Alpha Samus Hogan?” Misty, “Yes, Elder Bevis.” This explains it. She’s one of his s*x partners he has brought to his house. I guess he liked her really well to invite her to live in the house. Elder Bevis, “I grant the request. Alpha Hogan, I’ll be detaining your concubine until after the trial.” He says this staring into the observers. “We’ll have lunch. Next to the stand will be Dr. Tegan Moss.”
